Going to the drive in is a uniquely American experience, and sadly one that has fallen from favor. The SciFi Dine-In at at Disney World attempts to recapture some of that movie magic giving you a Cadillac-esque seat and a Hollywood Hills backdrop, plus movie clips looping on the big screen. All they need now is a couple of teenage friends to pop out of the trunk once the lights go down.

There's a drive in movie theater right near my parents' house in South San Diego, and it's incredibly popular. On the weekends, the line of cars to get in extends a good half mile to the freeway. So while it's a dying breed, I'm happy to see that some which are still around are doing well.
Hwo much do they charge compared to the common cinema? And I guess one has to have very cheap and unproductive ground to make this go round financially – nothing I'd expect to find too close to cities and towns…!?
$7 for a double feature, so it is cheap.

Jeez. In Norway, I pay 21$ for a common movie. 🙁
This makes me a little sad; I realize that my yet unborn children will never know the joy of spending a warm summer evening on a couch in the back of a pickup, waiting for the double feature with some greasy nachos and a burger. All the drive-ins have shut down around here.
There's a state of the art drive in going up in Ft Worth. I've been following them for the last year or so.
I can't wait to take the kid to a show.
I hope they show Porky's.
Theres a Drive in theater in Wilder (I think) Vermont thats a Motel too….picture window viewing!
If only that picture window viewing works both ways.
This must be what they mean by "the good old days".

The Coyote Theater that's going up asked for suggestions for movies. Bullitt was up there. Vanishing Point, American Graffiti, Two Lane Blacktop were my suggestions. Prolly end up being Toy Story and Fast And Furious.
You made some great suggestions!
We have a proper one in South-West Ireland. Probably one of the only ones in Europe … With canopies for the rain and heaters for the winshield, to adapt to the local weather conditions 🙂
Been there few times, does the job, and it's like going to a unique place.
We have 2 in Houston. Makes for a great, cheap date evening. $5 per car double feature. Bring your own snacks and weed.
