Auburn 851 – it’s hard to imagine a car more incongruously extravagant during the great depression. Sort of like seeing a Bugatti Veyron today.

Veyron's got nothing on the Boatail.

This makes me wish that Labor Day would roll around faster. I work in Auburn (IN) and it's surreal seeing all of the old cars driving around town during the ACD Festival. Seeing an Auburn or a Cord in their brightly colored factory hues parked at Burger King or DQ is always an interesting sight.

These cars truly were the supercars of their day. Each one came with a plaque on the dash signed by the factory test driver certifying that it had been driven 100 mph.

Next to an Auburn the Veyron looks vulgar.
