Last Call: A kick in the rear

Creating something exceptional requires the vision to imagine what could be, and the skill and determination necessary for it to be. Though, frankly, the ratio of vision to skill to determination can sometimes be a bit wonky.

Last Call indicates the end of Hooniverse’s broadcast day. It’s meant to be an open forum for anyone and anything. Thread jacking is not only accepted, it’s encouraged.

That’s friggin’ brilliant. Other than not hiding the transplant under stock sheetmetal (it would be much better as a sleeper), I’d say this guy hit a home run.

I’m surprised the track width is that close. Agreed on leaving the stock body in place, it would also look a lot less ghetto.

I can’t think of any fwd V8s sold in Australia; I had visions of a Camry V6 manual subframe dropped in the back of a Hillman Imp.

I love the Imp idea, though I wonder if the weight imbalance would ruin the handling?
My sister drove a (terrible) Mercury Topaz coupe back in the 90s, and my dad and I considered dropping a second four-cylinder into the rear to make it AWD. I’m thankful we never committed to such a doomed adventure.

The Imp engine and transaxle weigh roughly 120kg combined, I’d guess the V6 and trans would be double plus I’d assume changes to crossmember, suspension and bodywork would add some. The weight would be further forward though, and you would be moving the radiator and battery to the front as well as suspension and brake changes too.

Overall not balanced but perhaps not impossible? Maybe a big 4-cyl might be better; the level of thought I’ve given this is appropriate for the likelihood of it happening!

Agreed with both of you about the stock body, but I’m wondering if the lack of rear panels isn’t a necessity for cooling. It sort of just melted into the background of the photo at first, but that “cooling tower” the radiator is built into is sticking up above the roof a pretty good ways, so I’m not sure this thing was ever destined to be a sleeper, as awesome as that would be. (Hmm…maybe camouflage it as a pizza-delivery sign or something on the roof…?)

Despite the big mufflers I assume it wouldn’t be a sleeper to anyone with ears!

I’m trying to guess the origin of the fender flares. They are the pièce de résistance.
