I had no idea this existed: The Honda Civic VTi-S

There’s a sub-Reddit called Roast My Car. It’s an entertaining corner of the Internet where folks post up pictures of their vehicles, and then everyone else rips on it. The jokes are usually in good fun, and most owners get a good laugh out of it. Today, someone posted a picture of the vehicle above; a sixth-generation Honda Civic VTi-S. This is a car I’ve never seen before, and I love it.
Some quick Googling reveals this to be a special limited-edition version for the UK market. Honda offered a standard five-door wagon badged as a VTi, and the VTi-S version adds body bits and a few other extras. You could only get it in black (Pirates Black). Just 500 examples were produced in this body style, so it’s a rather rare machine.
Under the hood is the B16A2 engine you’d find in the EM1 Civic SI. So that makes this a very rare wagon with a screaming four-cylinder engine capable of running up to an 8,000 rpm redline.
This thing is awesome. No, I didn’t roast it.

So a lighter version of my TSX Sportwagon. Probably has a manual too. And dang an LSD! I can only dream

That’s pretty cool, actually. I’m not a fan of FWDs, but Civics have my respect– especially wagons!

That model, sold in some markets as the Domani, was the basis for the last Honda/Rover, the 400. The 400 shared the same centre section and doors, windscreen, sub structure and suspension, but with different front and rear styling and a different interior with real wood trim and on many models, Connolly leather uphostery. Honda engines were only available as the 1600 automatic, all manuals used Rover’s own K series and T series fours and later the V6s. The manual gearbox, the PG1 used Honda internals in a new casing to allow the ‘other way turning’ Rover engines to be used.
This was also one of the three cars that relaunched the MG brand, the MG version being labelled the ZS, these got new steering racks and slightly lower, stiffer suspension. The top version, the MG ZS180 with it’s 180 hp V6 and torsen lsd was acclaimed by Tiff Needell as the finest handling fwd car made. Not really surprising when you bare in mind that it’s effectively a four door Integra with a lightweight V6
Some people like me update their Rovers to the MG steering rack and suspension, and using the 2.0 l turbo T series from the larger 600,make another version of the car, Rover themselves didn’t make. The T turbo doesn’t weigh as much as the V6 but it has 200bhp standard and 250 hp or more easily obtained. I haven’t been able to obtain a turbo motor for mine yet but I’m still looking
Rover never made a wagon, but some people have made their own.
In this picture you can see why Honda only offered their estate in black.

I didn’t know there was a civic wagon from this era… now I need to wait 5yrs for it to be importable to the US. I just sold a 4dr version of that era civic that I’d had for 9yrs

I guess the combo of having a major European plant in Swindon, a strong enthusiast UK market (seem to buy more hot hatches and sports cars than their continental European counterparts) and a long running involvement in BTCC breeds interesting UK market models. The biggest hero to emerge from Swindon was probably the UK Accord Type R (not to be confused with the Euro R, which is ironically a JDM only model). Think of it as the nearest thing ever made to a Type R Prelude, but with back doors. The hidden gem of Type Rs.

I don’t actually have a worthwhile comment to make, I just somehow felt I needed to be a part of this thread.
