That was one of the best things I've seen in a long time. Except for the end of course. Was that fuel injection I saw on there?
I used to own a 1953 Buick Special with a straight 8 engine. It was the last year for the Straight 8 with only the Specials getting it. Every other Buick got the new V8. Very smooth and nice running engine. Watching it run with the valve cover off was awesome.

I'm pretty sure it was a EFI system with coil packs too. About the only thing traditional was the car and the fact it was a straight 8.

Those old Buick straight eights had a wonderful burbling sound from the exhaust.

Love when people take these engines that have no real aftermarket support and make a monster out of them. Takes cash to be sure, but more than that, it takes ingenuity and hard work. Sucks that it went out like that.

That engine sounded amazing, like a WWII fighter. Too bad about the ending of the video.

Just finished watching some old race that takes place in Florida, Got online to see this posted, now I think I need to continue this 'Murican streak and go for a drive in my 5.0 Exploder
    Go 'Murica! Yeah!
*looks around* sorry, was that a little much? I'll try to dial it back a bit…

Actually, from what I read, supercharging straight 8's was not terribly uncommon. It helped to alleviate one of the issues that a single carb manifold on such a long engine produced. The cylinders farthest from the carburetor were often a little starved for fuel. A pressurized manifold, though… Plus it adds lovely supercharger whine on top of fantastic I8 sound. Almost bought a 53 packard that was an inspected, insured driver with that in mind. Curse you evil Car Note!

So who's gonna track these guys down and do a road test for the site? May I present myself as the first volunteer?

Are those Corvette coil packs? I like it, but I think that supercharger was a bit much. Those long cranks tend to get a bit wobbly.
Whenever the topic of straight-eights comes up I like to post one of this guy's videos:

I would do bad things to get my hands on that roadster.

Picked it up last July at my daughters wedding. new head gasket, fuel pump, battery purrs like a kitten 47,000 miles on this coup. I think Mercedes and Bugatti got over the problem of crank flex in their racing straight eights by having 2 four cylinder blocks coupled together. But who doesn’t lift when they hear detonation is what I wanna know?
