Hooniverse Truck Thursday – A 1981 GMC Caballero

Yesterday, I highlighted a truck based wagon, so today, I thought I would highlight a car based pickup truck. This is a 1981 GMC Caballero, a close cousin to the Chevrolet El Camino, a vehicle that is near and dear to our hearts here at Hooniverse. So, is it near and dear to your heart? This 1981 Caballero is being offered by Kevco Classic Car Sales of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. According to the dealer:

1981 GMC CABALLERO. LIGHT BLUE POLY WITH BLUE INTERIOR.A VERY SOLID ONE OWNER, NON-SMOKER WITH 86,721 ORIGINAL MILES! 5.0 V-8, POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, AIR CONDITIONING, AM/FM TAPE. NEW HOLLY CARB AND DISTRIBUTOR,GARAGE KEPT AND PAMPERED IT’S ENTIRE LIFE AS YOU CAN SEE.

This generation of the GMC ‘Ute debuted for the 1978 model year, and survived relatively intact until 1987, when the Caballero and El Camino were both euthanized because of slow sales. It is odd that the car based pickup still survives in Australia, and there was a brief glimmer of hope that it would return here. But alas, it was not meant to be. But you can capture one for your very own, and the dealers asking price is $8,975. You can view the dealers listing here, and then discuss whether or not it’s worth that much.
