Hooniverse Goes To The Silverstone Classic

Silverstone4 The Silverstone Classic at Silverstone Circuit in Towcester, England bills itself as the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival. Over 1,100 entrants turned up for 22 races featuring everything from historic Formula 1 cars to ’90s Super Touring cars. In addition to the classic racers, there is also a classic car show on hand featuring representation from up to 90 different UK car clubs. Silverstone This event attracted around 90,000 spectators, who enjoyed the racing, the scene in the pits, the street cars on display, a carnival, a Bonnie Tyler concert, and plenty of shopping around the 3.7 mile course, which is the site of the annual British Grand Prix. Silverstone2 What would a British racing festival be without some racing Minis? Of course, there were plenty of British street cars on display as well. Silverstone3 Watch for a series of posts, laden with photos, from this cracking good show in the next few days. Cheerio! Editor’s note: Sadly, one of the drivers, Dennis Welch, was killed in a rollover accident during the pre-1966 Grand Prix race. His 1960 Lotus 18 reportedly struck another car at low speed and rolled over. He succumbed to his injuries at the track. We here at Hooniverse would like to extend condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Welch.
