Hooniverse Classic Caption – The 1977 Chrysler Cordoba and 1977 Plymouth Volaré Edition

Welcome to 2012, and it is now time once again for the Hooniverse Classic Caption Contest. Since the New Year is here, I thought I would present an image that is actually made up from two different pictures, but first let’s review how this game works; I find images from all around the web that the car companies used in their brochures or advertisements. It is your job to come up with some humorous comment that fits the image, to which I award the a prize. This week, it’s a Mack Trucks Baseball Cap, and one will go out to you if you come up with a great caption. Last week, we had an image of a couple of Warlocks, and because of the timing of this post, we had the lowest number of participants since I started this feature. While there were fewer comments to choose from, they were all rather entertaining in their own way. Our own Charles_Barrett was so close with his witty one liner: “Pardon me, but do either of you gals have any hair gel? This humidity is positively wreaking havoc with my boyfriend’s perm…!” Very funny Charles, but it was Van_Sarockin who had this winning line: Both girls instantly thought, “Boy, that John Player Special Europa has really let himself go!” Congratulations Van_Sarockin. Email me as soon as you can on where to send your prize. It’s now time to take a look at this weeks illustration. I combined two advertising images that were used in 1977 from the Chrysler Corporation. The left image is a 1977 Chrysler Cordoba sporting a new “T-Top” option, photographed with Chrysler Pitchman Ricardo Montalban looking dapper as ever next to the car. The right image is a 1977 Plymouth Volaré Coupe, also with the new “T-Top” option, photographed with Plymouth Spokesman Sergio Franci, also looking dapper in a late 1970s fashion. This image is going to take a lot of thought from all of you to come up with a great caption this time, so let’s see what you got. (You can click on the image to see it full sized) You have the next five days to come up with a great caption. The editors will then decide if any of the captions are good enough to describe how dreamy these 70s icons are… on second thought, ignore that last comment. The winner will receive the Mack Baseball Cap, so get to work on your best 70s crooner lines. Lead Image Courtesy of Alden Jewell’s Flickr Photostream: Cordoba, Volaré
