I’m dreaming up color schemes for my Mercedes wagon project; the Wombat. Right now it’s standard 80’s Mercedes-Benz silver. I want to change that though once we get far enough along, and I think I found the right color. It’s an old Benz hue called Moss Green Metallic and it looks gorgeous on the 1968 280SL shown above. Additionally, that green and the dark tan interior are a truly classic match when it comes to exterior and interior perfection.
What are some other great examples of exterior and interior matches made in heaven? A C1 Corvette finished in white with a red interior is certainly a great place to start. All black everything works if you’re the menacing sort with a mean machine.

I fall into the dark green / dark tan camp as well. But both need to be dark. Lighter greens look better with black interior, and I dislike light tan in anything.

Light tan leather with edge pinstriping matching the exterior paint colour is a very British tradition, used in Rovers, Jaguars, Astons, Bentleys, and Rolls Royces, particularly if the paint colour is one of the British Racing Greens.

Use of such colors by such marques may make it classically British, but not necessarily tasteful nor practical, IMO. Light tan is one step away from white, which is both awful to look at, and a dirt magnet. Honestly, when I say “dark tan”, I really mean “light brown”.

Well, you’ve already shown the clear winner (or the quite similar BRG over tan leather) – but, a combo that on “paper” sounds ridiculous, but seeing it draws a clear “well I’ll be damned, that’s stunning”

Good point, though that combo is very car-specific. On some vehicles, it looks ridiculous. But I once saw a dark blue Volvo Amazon with red interior that was drop-dead stunning.

You hit my 3 favorites with dark green/tan, white/red (my 1977 Corvette is this combo), and all black.
I miss the days of more than 3 interior color choices (black, grey, tan (if you are lucky)). -
It only sort of works if you’re nostalgic for a time when a 500cc 2 stroke motocross bike seemed more like something awesome than a recipe for instant death, but how about day-glow green and purple?

I’m a silver with dark red or cocoa brown kind of guy, HOWEVER, Jeff, I ask you to consider something special for the Wombat. In this era of Mercedes, you could get a color called Inca Red. It’s pretty rare, but I think it’d look stunning on the wagon. It’s a really cool color that will shift from a champagne to a tangerine orange depending on the light. My C124 is in Moss green, but with a pale greeny grey leather interior. According to the info I got with the car it was a special order colour called Oyster. The colour combo works well with the green tint glass.

Your pick is mine as well, although the dark tan goes well will almost any exterior color including dark blue, blood red and yellow. Too bad we don’t have the color choices we had in the 60s and 70s (wow, that was a long time ago). Not only did US companies offer lots of color combos but so did the French. I had a Renault Floride brochure that had a lot of cool colors.

I’d like to spec out an Audi RS6 Avant with a deep brown exterior, dark brown powdercoat alloys and a cream leather interior.
I’d call it ‘the Oreo Speedwagon’. -

Silver with red and black and black out trim. These are Viper ACR colors on a Factory Five Roadster. It helps if the silver is a bit darker than typical and has more metallic.

I saw a 280SE 3.5 and a matching 280SL in that color combo at Blenheim Motors in Philadelphia when I was shopping for a Mercedes. Another great MB color combo is Meer Grun (sea green) and red interior. Used occasionally in 220SE convertibles of the erly 60s.

I think the color has to suit the shape of the car and the era of car. I really like Triumph Pageant Blue, but only something from the 70s or early 80s. So this Spitfire looks great because it’s a factory color.
On the flip side a 57 Chevy street rod in oh so 90s qua with teal graphics and over done billet wheels looks like crap. But the same car in red and white two tone with 5 spoke Cragars looks awesome.
