Hooniverse Asks: What am I buying?

Last December I picked up my new Ford Bronco. The Bronco is going great and I’ll write more about it soon. But I now have a need for a second vehicle. I need to drive one of my two kids to school, while my wife uses the Bronco to drive the other kid around, or herself to the office twice a week. That’s really the only reason for the second car; I typically take the bus to my day job. My wife likes the Bronco so much that she wouldn’t give it up for anything else. So I had to get something for myself.

After wasting way too much time, I finally found something I really like. But what is it?

I am providing a few pics here, much like we did in the days of “Mystery Car“. I’ll let you tell me what I’m getting while I get it insured. A few more hints here.

The tweets are restricted and invisible to me, but the car already seems much more interesting than the Bronco. You’re a tall guy, so I guess it’s not a kei car. A Century would be too much. A Skyline too boring. A van with a large dashboard cover, from the photo?

One of the codes in the last sticker seems to be for Denso spark plugs, so I’m going with a Toyota of some kind. Crown Comfort to build a drift taxi or similar? Maybe not so much drift as wintertime slide-y taxi, but fun enough.

“API Service Category SH was first introduced in 1992 for use in gasoline engines and is not suitable for use in engines introduced after 1996.”
Since it also specs API Category SG, (“Not suitable for use in most gasoline-powered automotive engines built after 1993.”) we might narrow it down to the cusp years of ’92 and ’93. And it’s JDM. And still available for import, so probably not a HiLux or anything the vultures have already snapped up after the 25 year ban.

What kind of Japanese car that couldn’t pass the U.S. import standards thirty (30) years ago would Kamil want to drive his kid to school in? For the answer to that, we need to know which one is his favorite. (Car.)

You never did tell us what the Mystery Car from March 1, 2019 was. Of all the ambiguities of the Pandemic Era I think this one might be the one that tries Hoons’ souls the most.

Perfect answer is perfect! I drove one of these for a week once. Incredibly thin doors, would lift inner rear wheel in tight turns – like a Fiat 500 – and barely do 150 kph on the Autobahn.
