Friday Fantastico: 2008 Lola T70 Mk. 3B

“Hi, I’m the Lola T70. You may remember me from such films as ‘Le Mans’ and ‘THX 1138.’” Sweet mother of mercy! If the sight of that wide-eyed sports racer don’t set your heart aflutter, sir, you have no heart. But look a little closer and you’ll notice it’s nearly a brand-new construction, and it’s also for sale (although the price may cause your fluttering heart to stop entirely). While the T70 had a fair bit of success in Can-Am racing, and a couple of endurance racing wins (such as the ’69 Daytona 24 Hour race), it was overshadowed somewhat by the Ford GT40’s remarkable successes. What shouldn’t be overshadowed is that the achingly sexy T70 had a massive Can-Am/F5000 Chevy V8 stuffed amidships (in this case, a 5.0L engine), which for 99.9999999% of the population is going to be plenty to overwhelm every sense you have and a few you didn’t know about. This particular reproduction car, and don’t call it a replica, was constructed by Lola in 2008 as part of their 50th anniversary, and the factory claims its eligible to race in various historic classes. We don’t doubt that it’s conceivably eligible, being a very faithful reproduction, but before you plunk down your hard earned $650,000 we suggest you examine the rules. Oh, and did we mention it’s STREET LEGAL??? Let that soak into your addled mind for a second. Yeah, better start going through the couch for spare change, right? eBay Motors
