Either Ford is teasing us during testing or they are dramatically changing their livery for the endurance racing program this upcoming IMSA season.

Two of Chip Ganassi Racing’s drivers have posted about the restyled GTs. Now dressed in all white, the cars boast a great big blue oval on the nose with red accents across the roof. The look is pretty clean and straightforward as designs go. Joey Hand posted pictures to Twitter and Dirk Mueller posted a video of the car.

The white livery is a departure from the red, white, and blue scheme on the car for the last two seasons. The GT made its triumphant return to endurance racing in 2016 to celebrate Ford’s victory at Le Mans fifty years before.

The Return is a Ford documentary about the new GT program and the development of the racecar. You get small glimpses back into the past, but you should watch The 24 Hour War if you are unfamiliar with Ford and Ferrari’s duel back in the sixties. Better yet, read A.J. Baime’s book.

It will be interesting to see if Porsche is making any adjustments to their RSR livery of mainly white, red, and black. Two white based teams will be harder for casual fans to tell the difference between the Porsche and Fords in the GTLM class. The dedicated fans will know, especially since the Ford is shorter than the RSRs and has flying buttresses. Maybe this is an opportunity for more throwback liveries like Porsche ran at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last summer.

The white livery is going to look amazing when it’s dirty and grizzled after the 24 Hour of Daytona coming up in January.
