Flashback Friday – Citroën CX 25 GTi Turbo 2

cx_helsinki_5 When you go check out a car and ultimately decline on buying it, do you ever wonder what happened to it later on? I certainly do, especially if the car was in any way special to you. Last year I had a look at two different Citroen CX GTi Turbo 2:s for sale by the same seller, and didn’t buy either: I didn’t think I would have the wherewithal to turn a tired daily driver and a garage queen into a pair of CX dazzle. This past weekend, we walked around Helsinki in glorious spring weather, and I noticed a red CX some way up in the direction of our travel. “Hey, there’s a CX, one of my dream cars. Looks kinda like the one we checked out last year.” We walked a bit closer. “What do you know, this is the same exact car.” cx_helsinki_3 Of course, old CX:s aren’t all too common in Finland these days, so running into the same example out of all CX:s isn’t exactly impossible. But the place where the CX sat last was a little bit north from Vasa on the west coast, almost a six hours’ drive from Helsinki and an easy 500km distance. cx_helsinki_6 In the afternoon lighting, the CX didn’t look too bad. It hadn’t had a lot of work done that I could notice straight away, but the paint had probably been buffed at some point. It still had the patchy paintwork, but it didn’t look like a disaster. cx_helsinki_7 cx_helsinki_8 I don’t know if the two cars sold, if the buyer of this car got only this one or the two of them, or how either is now doing mechanically. But I hope for the best for the two CX:s, and it’s clear this one definitely moves under its own power. Having bought a bunch of cars after seeing the Citroëns, including a vaguely similarly coloured Citroën of my own, I don’t yearn for this exact one – but one a little bit cleaner, one with half the mileage still haunts my dreams. They’re that good looking. [Images: Copyright 2014 Hooniverse/Antti Kautonen]
