False Neutral #39: Bikes on Film

fn-podcast-39-copy

In this episode Eric, Garrett and I look at how motorcycles are portrayed in Hollywood films. From the good to the bad and the ugly, we discuss what bike-related movie tropes get two thumbs up, and which ones make us groan. After a tangental side-trip into who does the biker wave to whom, and why, we get back on topic to close out with a list of our favorite motorcycle documentary films.

Where the hell is Torque???? Or its “based on a true story” contemporary Biker Boyz?

If you try to argue that it’s because they suck, I will concede the point, but counter with “You included Wild Hogs.”

There was a whole list of other movies we never got around to discussing. As for those two, I will have to confess they didn’t come up. I can’t speak for Garrett or Eric, but I, for one, have seen neither of them.

Fair enough. There are several here that I have never seen. There are several that I haven’t even heard of, so wouldn’t know to bring them up in conversation about movies about or containing prominent motorcycles.

There were some good and truly great ones that we didn’t mention and should have. One Man’s Island, Electra-Glide In Blue, No Limit…

Others that we had on our list that didn’t end up getting mentioned:
          – Ghost Rider
          – Mad Max
          – The Dirt Bike Kid
          – Thunderball
          – The Matrix
          – Lara Croft Tomb Raider
          – Silver Dream Racer
          – Space Riders
          – Little Hoss & Big Halsy
          – The Motorcycle Diaries
          – Knightriders
          – Viva Knievel
          – Hell’s Angles, Devil’s Angels …and all those other ‘60s/Roger Corman biker gang exploitation flicks

Terminator 2 but not Vanishing Point?

And happy belated birthday to Gilda Texter, who turned 70 on Saturday.

T2 came up specifically in the discussion of erroneous engine overdubbing.

I infer that means there was no discussion of boobies. Or dirt track.
