The World’s Worst Car Is For Sale On Craigslist

Welcome to Craigslist Crapshoot, our weekly search for the most bizarre, awesome, and/or terrible vehicles that the online classifieds has to offer.

Well, we had a bit of a hiatus for Craigslist Crapshoot, owing to the past two Wednesdays having been taken up with, respectively, Christmas and New Year’s. It may seem like our last engagement was decades ago but thanks to the Internet we can see it again like it was just yesterday.  As a refresher our last quest was to find the most ridiculously priced non-runner that the classifieds has to offer. We’ll see just how much hope springs eternal in a sec, but first let’s get this party started with the first contest of 2014!

This week’s challenge is the flip side of our last, and that is to find the cheapest runner you can. They don’t have to be pretty, and in fact at the prices I’m seeking, they’ll probably need to be described as having a nice personality.

As always, we want your finds to go down in infamy and not in the site’s spam filter. Follow any of the following advice and you’re crap will be known far and wide.

  1. Easiest way to not get caught in the spam filters is to create an IntenseDebate account. If you do so and your posts aren’t appearing, let us know at tips@hooniverse.info and we can put you on the whitelist
  2. If you don’t want an IDC account, you can create a wordpress.com account and do the same thing.
  3. If you’re the Ted Kaczynski type and don’t want any kind of account, then try to place only a single link in a comment and just drop any outgoing link in via its raw URL and not as a text link
Craigslist Crapshoot doesn’t work if your candidates don’t get seen, so hopefully following one of these options will ensure that the floodgates of crap are fully open. Click on through the jump and let’s look at the king of delusion!

P.T. Barnum is famously quoted as saying that there’s a sucker born every minute, but sadly for many – if not all – of the non-runners offered last time, it seems that the birthrate has dropped precipitously. That’s not to say that some of this decrepitude won’t find new homes, but for most of them the only running is people running away form them.

The safest story, or may be the most pie in the sky, was this 1970 Ford Torino with a faux King Cobra long nose. Found by P161911, this bench seat, drum brake car is said to have been a labor of love for more than a decade, and is now up for tow-away grabs as that’s apparently long enough. We all appreciate the strategy that goes into the making of a notable tribute car out of a bottom feeder original, but there’s just not enough that’s changed on this one to warrant its asking price, at least in my book.

Excellent work, P161911!
