BMW wishes Dieter Zetsche a happy retirement

Dieter Zetsche, also known as Dr. Z, is retiring from Mercedes-Benz after more than 40 years to the company. He’s had many ups and downs – there was the Smart cars and the merger with Chrysler. But his biggest accomplishment will probably be turning the brand around so that it no longer appeals only to coke-sniffers in the financial industry who frequent Miami Beach for wife-swapping parties. There is some Benz model that will appeal to most people willing to pay for it, and even those who can only manage a lease payment.

Happy retirement, Dr. Z!

Respect for Mr. Mustache, and this is quite an awesome clip. Even though it looks a bit CGI-heavy at the end…or doesn’t it?

It’s unlikely I ever view MB positively after the DCX rape and pillagemErGEr oF eQuALs, but happy retirement to Dr. Z who seemed to have a fair bit more sympathy for the Chrysler side than most anyone from the D side of DCX, and comes from a family with the same can’t-afford-a-vowel German tsch consonant as I have in my last name.

I share that opinion, except that my great-great-whatever-grandfather shortened our last name to eliminate that consonant and some syllables.

I owned a Dodge Ram during the dark days of Dr. Z’s reign. It was a dog. I will never again own a Mopar product built after 1972.

If I dangled the keys to a Hellcat in front of your face right now though…
