Audi initially launched its sleek supercar with V8 power. The R8 was an immediate hit when it arrived for the 2007 model year. Some desired a bit more grunt though, and Audi supplied that a few years later. The 5.2-liter V10-powered R8 first launched back in 2009. That’s ten years ago though it feels like lifetime at this point. Both the car and its ten-cylinder engine have aged well. To celebrate the milestone, Audi reached out for help from artist Fabian Oefner.

He’s know for his “Disintegration” series, which examines iconic items through the sum of their parts all at once. His talents have been turned onto the R8 and it’s mighty V10. The result is a limited-edition poster (which you can buy here) showing the many parts that comprise the power producer at play here.

To create his piece, Oefner took every bit of the engine apart. He photographed all of it. Every single piece that came off the back of the car was actually captured. Then Oefner digitally put it in place for his final work of art. It’s a lot of work but the end result is quite stunning.

Audi calls it “the slowest art we’ve ever built”. Sometimes it’s good to slow down though, so you can appreciate the time, effort, and skill needed to create something special. Be it an Audi R8 or a fantastic piece of art.
