Adorable 1949 Mercury Is Adorable

Merc

There are people out there who build hot rods, and then there are people who build hot rods. Ernie Adams is one of those people who builds hot rods. This Mercury looks like an ordinary hot rod until you realize that it’s miniature. It’s actually an 11/16th scale replica of the original…and it’s brilliant.

This isn’t the first of Mr. Adams’ mini-rods. He also built a 1936 Chevrolet, a 1948 Mercury, and a 1928 Chevrolet. The entire car is built by hand, mostly from recycled materials.

Somewhere in the video, the following: “All the dashes in all my cars so far have been made out of refrigerator doors.” That, my friends, has earned Ernie Adams a special seat here in the Hooniverse.

Oh. Hell. Yes. Definitely an early, strong contender for HCOTY.

I'd like to see him do a Bugeye Sprite, and drive it. THAT would be impressive.

If he did a version of Endre Suranyi's car, he'd better build 2, so he can wear one on each foot… <img src="http://media.economist.com/images/images-magazine/2010/12/18/xh/20101218_xhp012.jpg" width="500">

I want to see him do an 11/16 replica of Smokey Yunick's 7/8 car.

I love that you did the math.

The whole 7/8 thing is a myth. The car was just smoothed and cleaned to make it more aerodymanic. Smokey's cheating exploits are legendary though.

Sad but true. No matter how much money I put into making a super fun to drive car, a gokart will probably still be more fun.

Though this one being built by Custom Mike has got something going for it somewhat at the other end of the spectrum vs the Toyota engine in this beauty.

I would rather have this than that big big excursion a couple posts later on.
    This would be fun,
