A Ranchero So Ugly, They Wouldn't Even Let it in the Barn

1964 Ford Ranchero for sale1964 Ford Ranchero for sale

Yup, they found it under a tree, next to the barn. Under a layer of leaves. Good news is, Ford smallblocks are cheap and easy to fix, so apparently it runs great. The seller had his priorities correct; in addition to the engine work he had the bench seat redone and…nothing else. But with a buy it now of $1,964 (get it?), you could do a lot worse than a running 260ci + 2-speed auto. Then again, you could probably do better, too.

I know that someone says this on every "car for sale" thread, but if this car was within 100 miles of me instead of in "Sun Dieago, Kaleeeefornia" I'd be sniping the last bid. I'm in the market for a dump and Home Depot runner, have a well-documented weakness for truck-cars, and a fresh tax check.

That is a nice Rancero. Aside from the paint. And, well, goddamn everything else. The bench does look incredibly comfy, however. And with that, I call it good price.

I did not know until just this moment that Ford had a 2-speed equivalent to the Powerglide.

      Yes, the late, unlamented Fordomatic.

Saw this and went straight to the local Craigslist and typed in Ranchero. Found this: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/1658275847…. 34k miles and only $3900. It is a 74 though. Too bad my truck needs exceed the capabilities of a car-truck. Otherwise I would probably still have my 77 Ranchero.

Sad for sure that utes are so hard to find here.
Maybe I should build my own, like so?

I have a 66' Ranchero rotting in my driveway. My grandfather bought it after it was repoed. Gave the truck to my dad who used it as a pipe truck for his job, than parked it in our garage which had a dirt floor at the time. Sadly to say the body is pretty badly rotted. It does have a 3-on-the-tree and a 70' maverick 300cid straight 6! and Ferrari seats!

That looks like the parts delivery Ranchero I used to drive when I worked at a Dodge dealership when I was 17. Mine didn't look as nice as this one though, mine was a bit of a beater. You couldn't put anything smaller than a 2×4 in the bed else it would fall out thru the rusted out floor. It had a one-lung inline 6 that smoked horribly with a 2 speed slushbox that gave you a top end of just under 50 mph. I won't mention what was left of the interior. I've never been fond of Rancheros since then.

I had one of these a looong time ago that I bought for 150 bucks that had what the previous owner described as, "electrical issues". I had a '66 Falcon Econoline van at the time that had the same 260 and three-on-the-tree and thought I could figure it out pretty easy. I f**ked with that thing for many, many hours, and only had it fired up once, with jumper cables directly attached to the starter. Once you disconnected the cables, it would instantly die. Bad Ground, easy-piezy. Messed with it a bunch more, and then it wouldn't even fire with the cables to the starter. I didn't have the time or the will to mess with it further, so I sold it for 150 bucks
When the guy showed up with his trailer, I told him all that I knew and what and where I had looked for the problem. He thanked me, and away it went.
The last time I saw it, it was on the side of the road with the hood up. He said he thought he had figured it out, but evidently hadn't. I offered him a tow up to the gas station, but he said, "Thanks, but I think I know what's wrong."

I always forget these were based on the Falcon for a while. I have an HO-scale falcon that is now begging for the 'chero treatment. But I think it's a 4-door. Does that matter?
