A Lamborghini Sport-Ute? Let's Talk About This

Okay, so it's not as pretty as a real Lamborghini…

Okay, I’m no big fan of Sport Utes. I don’t particularly like them in any variety, even though I do have an unexplainable desire for a Volvo XC90. So my first reaction to these conceptual renderings was very likely the same as yours: “Kill It With Fire”.
But hold on there, Sparky. Let’s talk about this a little more.

…Nor as sleek and sporty…

Lamborghini has produced a Sport-Ute before, the “Rambo Lambo” LM002; they’re born from tractors, so the idea of them building trucks isn’t as wild and foreign as we might think. But there’s another point as well.
Would you be more interested in a Sport-Ute it if were powered by a mid-engined V10, for instance? The designer in this case has suggested that the concept would have to be mid-engined to stay true to Lamborghini heritage. From a functional standpoint, this is idiotic; in a SUV, there is no point in having the engine anywhere but the front. But from a Lamborghini perspective, it makes perfect goddamn sense. Lamborghini has always been about batshit insanity, so why not inject a heavy dose of batshit insanity into a SUV?
Food for thought; what say you, Hoonigans? Is it apocryphal, or brilliance?
…but would you like it more if it had a Lambo engine in the arse end?

Hey Gang … Unless my soon-to-be-very-old memory is failing me a little early, I remember another Lambo Sport-Ut. Only, the one I remember was more Ute than Sport. I can't remember when this was, so I am hoping someone with better computer search skills then mine can run this down. I do remember that it was so long ago that Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Place had kit cars, sports cars and accessories sellers located in the basement of the expo hall. I will guess 1991 or 1992. I know I saw a lambo that had much the same air as the Hummer and I know that somewhere I have photos. I don't have a clue where to start looking for them. I believe that it had a V-10, or V-12 engine, maybe even bigger, and it was, well, totally outrageous. Here's hoping that someone can come up with a picture of it.

Hey All … I did find a reference to the old Lambo Ute in Wikipedia. Wiki said, "The Lamborghini LM002 is an SUV that was built by the Lamborghini automobile company between 1986 and 1993. The LM002 was an unusual departure for Lamborghini which, at the time, was primarily known for high-performance grand tourers and sports cars. The LM002 is also the first four-wheel drive model manufactured by Lamborghini."
So … jump to Google Pix and see what this critter looked like.

Did I just go through all of that to post to a conversation that is already 99 weeks old? Shit.

Yes, you did, but if it's any consolation the LM002 is once again topical:
