Do you ever think to yourself “Gee, Fords are neat and all,  but not quite special enough”? I was perusing my local Craigslist (as I often do), and came across this XR4Ti. I’m no expert on 1980s Ford products, but this sure does look nice to my untrained eyes. I’ve been MIA for some time, and figured I’d mark my return to Hooniverse with something you don’t see everyday.

This car is very rare as it is a unmolested example of a first year Merkur XR4ti.
The white body is excellent inside and out. It has the 2.3 liter Turbo charged 4cylinder which was also used in the Mustang SVO of the same year. The 5 speed is a World Class T5 with a brand new clutch. It just passed smog.
The engine runs strong with a new valve job, timing belt, waterpump, thermostat and housing and turbo. The front brake rotors and pads and new. The power steering lines were just replaced . Have receipts. The glass and rubber is excellent. Also have the original owners manual and original window sticker.
A lot of bang for the buck!

I can think of far worse ways to spend $3,100.

Of course, I’m a lunatic, so my ’80s FoMoCo car of choice is a Cougar with this same powertrain.
