New French President gets an interesting new car – Citroen DS5 Hybrid4

Sometime ago we learned that France’s former president and hot babe husband, Nicolas Sarkozy, rode around in a very special Peugeot 607 Paladine Concept. Baller? No doubt. However, President Sarkozy did not win the re-election this year. Still baller? Yea, I think he’s going to be ok.

His successor, François Hollande, took office and his ride of choice is not cool hardtop convertible concept car. No. He is riding around in a Citroen DS5 Hybrid4. What the hell is that, you ask? It’s a rather modern-retro-ish French-looking 200-horsepower turbo-diesel 4WD hybrid luxury hatchback/wagon thing. Re-read that last sentence.

Reports are that the only modification to  François’ ride is the huge sunroof which allows to stand up and wave. At around 60mpg that’s a lot of waving around. If it got 60mpg, which it does not according to TTAC’s slightly biased review. It’s supposedly not very big or comfortable either, nor is it any fast. And that whole bit about the hybrid AWD system? Well the electric motors propel the rear wheels while the diesel spins the fronts, so it’s not a typical hybrid we have come to known.

So let’s see: technically complex, interesting looking, slow, inefficient, and with an interesting interior. I love it. I love it for no other reason than the fact that it’s so damn French and I am so happy to see that the French can still make proper French cars. While it seemed weird at first, this is the obvious choice of a car for a new French president.
