Have you ever wanted to add a bit of automotive flair to your home interior design while garnishing yourself some brownie points with the missus? Here is your opportunity.  

While living in Spain a few years ago, I…happened upon… a European plate that may or may not have been hanging half on and half off of a Seat Leon in Murcia one day after school. It’s been floating around my house for the last several years, and I decided to do something with it.  

Step one: Grab yourself a nice license plate (or any other metal plate or tin sign of your choosing). Find working wall clock.

Step two: Drill a hole in the center of your license plate. It is important that it be in the center, because the hang point of the clock will require it to balance properly. (You should probably measure twice before you drill. I eyeballed it, and it happened to work. You may not be so lucky.) Be sure that the drill bit you use is slightly larger than the threaded shaft of your clock body. If you need to, start with a smaller bit and work your way up until the hole is large enough (that’s what she said?)

Step three: Install the clock base into your newly crafted clock face. Fasten the face to the base safely with the provided hardware. If no hardware was provided then find some. Then slide the hour hand on, slide the minute hand over it, and finally cap it off with the centered seconds hand. As you can see, I used black hands on my clock to match the black and white of the plate face. These were purchased on clearance at Hobby Lobby for a few dollars, or you could save even more by painting the provided gold hands black.

Step four: Install a single AA cell battery and set the current time.  

Step five: Use a drywall nail or screw to hang your new clock wherever you like (more appropriately, wherever she likes.)

Let me qualify this picture by saying that wifey had control over everything else on that wall.  It was, however, my responsibility to hang it all without cursing…Yeah, as if…
