Here at the Hooniverse we love the truly perverse when it comes to our Automotive tastes. Classic Benz Wagons, Falcon V-8 Sedans, Ford Twin I-Beam Pickup Trucks, Older Lincoln Town Cars, reinterpretation of a Studebaker Open Roof Wagonaire… See what I mean? And when it comes to French Cars, well we all seem to go weak at the knees… Well, get ready for your knees to buckle because here is a very tidy Citroen CX from 1988, and it’s currently for sale on Craigslist…

Price for this exquisite French Masterpiece (or it could even be French Merde…) is $6,950. I think it’s a little high because you will have no parts support whatsoever, unless you live in California and know a little shop located in Oakland… See the original listing here, and tell me what you think about it.

Did these cars come with standard air conditioning? A glance at the dash and underwood pictures suggest not, but Hell, being French looking for normal controls and components is a waste of time. Anyhow, if not – noting that the car is in Dallas- you can do a lot of French cooking right in the driver's seat.

A/C was not standard and ventilation was notoriously poor.

So interesting! That's one car that's priced higher than expected, even to me who thinks most of the cars shared here are priced fairly.
What's odd: Over the last couple of days, several CX's popped up in my "pre-85" constant car search. From a browntastic eyefeast via a grotesquely overpriced white one, to an early black Pallas in need of minor welding I can only assume that the local market is flooded.
In its time, a lot of DS enthusiasts were probably disappointed, but I think the design has aged really well.

I'd buy one of these if I were looking for a new toy, but only if I couldn't find a Renault R16. Totally different cars, I know, but both French. Always thought the R16 was cool in a quirkily innovative way, and some of he home market cars had a bit more performance than the ones we got in the USA.
The CX didn't get the SM's pushbutton brake pedal which actually worked quite nicely when you got used to it.
The asking price for this CX is not all that high for such a nice example. When there are few for sale and many are in poor shape, you can get away with a slightly high asking price.

From the current round of BaT-auctions: 1969 Renault R16 stateside.

Current bid is only 1300$ – this could be quite the deal even when the party is over. No reserve auction.

And this rare 16 prototype has turned up at Retromobile in Paris in the last few days. A two door convertible version.

This CX has been popping up for sale pretty regularly for a while now–I think a couple years. I don't know its story, but it I'd approach with caution.

I remember seeing it here on the Hooniverse a while back. It's in Plano, close to the Haggard farm.

The Pininfarina Lancia is a stunner.

Haha, it would have been easier for the uninvited to understand that if Lancia had kept the more exciting angled rear lights, too.

On another note this is a good chance to remind the world that the Lancia Gamma and the Citroen CX started out as a joint venture.
DeGaulle vetoed it as he considered 'Le Hydropneumatique' to be a National Asset. So Lancias had to use a Beta based suspension and Citroen missed out on a new large flat-four and the CX had to keep using an engine dating back to the pre-war Fifteens.
That Lancia only flat-four ended up with a 'designed in weakness' of an accessory drive off a camshaft designed for a fairly constant low oil pump load, as in a Citroen hydropneumatic oil pump, changed to running the wildly varying demands of a power-steering pump. The increased load of which, when the engine is cold can snap the cambelt and damage the engine.
And Gammas and CXs share the same floorpan edge/sill detail and door seal profiles.

It's French – that's enough for me. I must have it.
