Last Call- Lite Not So Brite Edition

Good Year came up with these light-up tires in the early sixties, apparently to aide in up skirt photography. The tires were made from synthetic rubber, and illumination was provided by wheel-mounted bulbs. Changing one of those must have been a hassle!

Wow– can't believe this isn't ripe for a comeback. Grade-D hoons everywhere can get color-impregnated tires to lay down majestic, colored burnouts; and now we have retractable wheel illumination.
Except for that whole pesky bias-ply vs. radial tire thing (y'know, performance), this would seem to be a no-brainer!

Hang on, where is that power cable going? From the wheel-arch to the center of the hub??

OK, I think they're pretty cool looking, but I'll have to research to find out some more about them.
What color were they when not lit up?
I can't believe that a bulb from the 60's could possibly last inside a tire. LED's today make this a brighter possibility.
