24 Hours of Lemons: Get Ready for an All-Timer Weekend!

[Disclaimer: Eric Rood works for the 24 Hours of Lemons and is a total shill.]
The 24 Hours of Lemons has, over the course of 12 years, run nearly 200 races. Until this coming weekend (and the following one), however, Lemons has never run two events on the same weekend. Not only will Lemons be racing at both Michigan’s Gingerman Raceway and Washington’s The Ridge Motorsports Park, but the events will also feature some of the most amazing car debuts all at the same time (plus Kamil’s Park Bench Racing Buick and some engine-swapped RX-7s). Read on, good Hoons. Read on.

As you’re likely aware, Three Pedal Mafia “raced” a bone-stock(ish) Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, which may have been the slowest non-electric car ever in the series. However, a man who scraps exotic cars near Detroit found himself with a totaled Dodge Viper and a Rolls Royce that needed an engine and…well…you can do the math. Check out the Instagram account for all kinds of details on the build, which has maybe exceeded the spirit of the $500 rule—although scrapping RR parts adds up quickly—but everyone in the Lemons World (and hopefully elsewhere) are excited to see it at Gingerman Raceway. This one has a build thread on the Lemons Forum.

But wait, there’s more! Two separate teams are bringing Corvettes to Gingerman. The Warriors had run an absolutely stock second-gen Dodge Neon for years, but they’ve snapped to their senses and will bring Lemons’ second C3 Corvette, a knackered ’76 that I think has the original engine. Team Sucker Punch has been part of Lemons for a full decade, going back to a (US market) first-gen Ford Escort, then a third-gen Camaro that unfortunately got written off racing in another series at Road America. Their replacement? You guessed it, a stock-ass ’84 Corvette (above). The C4 build also has a Lemons Forum build thread.
Chrysler TC by Maserati
What else could you ever want? Well, just two weeks after Lemons’ first Cadillac Allante, Lemons will also get its first Chrysler TC by Maserati. It’s an ’89 with the four-cylinder being run by a team of rookies and that’s about all we know. But what else do you need to know?

As Lemons discovered when we raced at Sebring International Raceway, people will bring out cars that match the race (or track’s) name. So throwing the moniker “Smells Like AMC Spirit” to the late-added second race this year at The Ridge would net an AMC Spirit or two, we thought. Turns out, we have FOUR AMC Spirits registered for this race from teams that we know should be able to make it happen: Team Lowball (runs a pair of AMCs in Texas), Hella Shitty Racing, Low Road Racing (who also race a Mustang II and a Pontiac Sunbird), and Rattlesnake Electric Sport. Keep in mind: We’ve had exactly ZERO AMC Spirits to this point in Lemons.

Further, some insane people bought a $200 Lada Niva in Canada and will attempt to road race it. I mean, there’s no way that could possibly go wrong!

Bear in mind: These are just the new Lemons cars; plenty of old favorites will be back. You can find (and download) the entry lists for both races in this Imgur post. Get details on the races at The Ridge and at Gingerman by clicking those links back there in this sentence.

    Who’s working each race?
After failing to make it to the last rally because of… reasons… I decided not to double down by setting myself up to fail to get my SAAB 96 ready for another go at The Ridge. Still, I’ll probably drive to Shelton on Saturday to see the sights, now that my Volvo 66 GL is finally (currently) running.

It’s Jeff, Nick, and Tom Hergert working The Ridge. Throw Nick a line today.

I just contacted Nick and he asked me to substitute for Matt Adair’s mom on Saturday and Sunday. I said yes, although now upon reflection I’m not sure how Matt will feel about this.
