2021 Lexus RC-F Fuji Speedway Edition – Sports Car or Grand Tourer?

The Lexus RC-F exists in a space somewhere between a sports car and a grand tourer, and the Fuji Speedway Edition attempts to push the needle closer to the sports car side of the equation. It’s a limited-edition machine with polarizing style that produces tremendous noise.

Is it worth $100k? Lexus only needs 60 hand raisers to say yes, because that’s how many the automaker plans to build.

[Disclaimer: Lexus tossed us the keys to the RC-F Fuji Speedway Edition and included a tank of fuel.]

[insert why not both meme pic here]

I’ve always liked LJK Setrights definition that a Grand Tourer is a sports car with just enough civility to make touring possible. You sort of have to remember that when the term started to be used in the modern sense, most sports cars were migraine inducing machines with weather protection that was more difficult than putting up a tent by yourself and generally inadequate, by those standards, most modern sports cars can be described as GTs, and many GTs as upmarket geriatric mobility scooters.

I have a friend with an F series Lexus and it rather reminds me of a good club tennis player in his late 30’s. He [the club player aka Lexus F] likes a scotch now and again, and a good steak and it is starting to show, but he’s still pretty good when he gets serious. I think the Fuji Speedway Edition will be what happens if he hires a good trainer and really gets in shape. He’ll never be 20 again, but he can surprise a lot of the kids who think they’re fast.

So, an expensive and more comfortable Mustang GT.
