Rental Car Review: 2014 Ford Fusion SE

IMG_20140502_201836

Last fall, I told you about my experience with the 2013 Chevy Cruze LTZ. We had rented it for a trip down the Oregon coast, and we enjoyed our time in the car; the EcoTec 4-cylinder handled my right-food requests well enough, and it rode like a sporty compact should. This past weekend, we made the same trip again, but in a 2014 Ford Fusion SE with the EcoBoost engine. How would the Ford measure up? Take the jump below to find out. … Continue Reading

The Tesla Tousle – what does it all mean?

 tesla-model-s612am (Custom)
Tesla models has been rocking the proverbial boat in the automotive industry for several years now. The Model S, with its near-supercar acceleration and unequaled good looks, has served notice to the XJ’s of the world that big car performance doesn’t have to come with big car fuel bills. Coming in 2014, the Model X will offer similar levels of performance, but with seating for seven adults and a large cargo area in the rear. All that is well and good, but there is a much hotter issue in play right now. … Continue Reading

The Hooniverse: Tom’s 1969 Pontiac Firebird Part II
This bird’s become a Phoenix

1969 pontiac firebird

The ‘Bird is back, one more time.

By now you should be pretty familiar with this 1969 Pontiac Firebird. It belongs to my friend Tom, and I’ve been chronicling it’s journey here on Hooniverse for some time now. The car has come quite a long way since when we first introduced it here on the site. After that it was time to redo the interior a bit. From there Tom learned a lesson in making sure the battery is secure. Most recently we featured the Firebird in a video that focused on the subject of old cars, and why they rule.

Now it’s time to say good-bye though, because the both the car and my friend are moving away. Before that happens, we decided to get the Firebird into a better state. What does that mean? How about paint, body work, engine dressing, front and rear brake upgrades, and oh just a complete Stage II TVS suspension setup from Hotchkis.

Black Circles and Colourful Metaphors.

Dunlop1

It’s a classic proposition; the fast moving, ultra secretive, hush-hush, high-drama world of the secret agent.

Let’s explore the image. We have a suave, confident, international man of mystery, but this ain’t no Bond that I recognize; not even George Lazenby. This guy is clearly bringing a fresh mindset to the business of low profile problem elimination, for which may all our countries be truly grateful. He’s flanked by a tall-haired siren with a brazenly plunging neckline, come-hither eyes and sexpot features, obviously the poison-edged love interest in this exotic saga.

We can dig deeper after the jump.

The Hooniverse – Tom’s 1969 Pontiac Firebird

 1969 Pontiac Firebird lead

We’re back with another installment of The Hooniverse, where we take a high-definition look at an automobile that touches us in all the right places. The first vehicle in this series was the Aston Martin V12 Vantage. For our second video, we took a Cadillac CTS-V Coupe into downtown Los Angeles at midnight. Now, however, we’re turning back the clock with something a bit older. We’re grabbing the keys to a familiar 1969 Pontiac Firebird to try and explain why driving an old car… is a beautiful thing.

The Hooniverse – Night time fun with the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe

Cadillac CTS- V Coupe The Hooniverse lead

A V badge is one of my favorite emblems on a car. It means I’m dealing with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine and rear-wheel-drive. It means I’ve got the keys to one of Cadillac’s finest. It means I better get off my ass and go do something fun… so I did. The V badge in question this time around is the 2013 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, and I set off for downtown Los Angeles to take in the sights. Actually, I went there to create some sights, because it was well after midnight… and I had a lot of room for “activities”.

The Hooniverse – Getting to know the 2012 Aston Martin V12 Vantage

aston martin vantage lead

Today we present to you a new way to ignore work. It’s called “The Hooniverse”, and its a brand new style for us to present video projects to you. We added a “the” to the name because we’ve upped the amount of effort and skill involved in the production of these videos.

For the inaugural episode, allow me to introduce the Aston Martin V12 Vantage. This is a car that we’ve been dying to drive since it first burst forth from behind the Gaydon curtain. We spent a week with the car, and it was one of the few vehicles we had to think long and hard about not taking on a run to Mexico, never to return.

Click past the break for the first episode in the new series, and stay tuned because we have a few more already in the works. It’s not just new car clips either. Well, the next episode is a new car… but we’re involving other vehicles going forward as well. Remember Tom’s Firebird? Get ready for before and after episodes, because we’ve got some plans for it (and they involve our friends at Hotchkis). How does a cruise in an old Cadillac sound? Or perhaps a bit of wheel-spun fun from behind the wheel of a Saleen Fox Body? That’s all coming… and more.

For now… let’s kick it off with that V12 Vantage.

UPDATE: Yes, the video’s here now…
