Hooniverse Weekend Edition – Uh, Hi There

I'm the handsome one...

Editors Note: This weekend, Hooniverse will be running a series of posts introducing you to some of the new writers who are now in our part of the Hooniverse. This time it’s Bradley Brownell who is our own Hooniverse Motorsports Editor. Let Bradley know how much you appreciate his writing here.

The life of an extremely enthusiastic automobile enthusiast can sometimes be difficult. Actors often complain of being typecast, and I think I can relate. I am no longer Bradley C. Brownell, the kid from the sticks that listens to weird music, plays nerdy video games, and tries unsuccessfully to play sports. I am now simply “Car Guy Brad”. Since I became interested in automobiles, it has consumed me like a flame, and become the single largest facet of my life.

Growing up in rural Michigan, I learned quickly the virtues of front mounted V8s powering the rear wheels, primarily extolled by those rockin’ a “Wisconsin Waterfall” haircut and a chaw of Skoal. I was the “normal” car enthusiast in that I was passively interested in what was happening, and lived my life as most do. I was about to experience three life changing moments, and I was none the wiser.

Hooniverse Weekend Edition – Here’sssss Robby!

Editors Note: This weekend, Hooniverse will be running a series of posts introducing you to some of the new writers who are now in our part of the Hooniverse. This time it’s Robby DeGraff who is currently at Loyola University Chicago. Let Robby know how much you appreciate his writing here.

What’s up everybody?  Like that short blurb said up above, I’m Robby DeGraff and I love cars. Of course, everyone in the Hooniverse community loves cars, which is the main reason I started to write for the site. Yes I’ve successfully drifted a 20 passenger high-top hotel shuttle van in the snow. Yes I’ve been pulled over for going 30mph over the posted speed limit. Yes I still buy Hot Wheels and Matchbox Cars even though im almost 22. Yes, working on my car with an ice cold beer on a Saturday night is relaxing Yes that is me. Call me obsessed, sure, but I like to go where my passions are.

Hooniverse Weekend Edition – That weird new guy and his weird car fetish

No, it's not that comfortable

Editors Note: This weekend, Hooniverse will be running a series of posts introducing you to some of the new writers who are now in our part of the Hooniverse. This time it’s Ray Lindenburg who is afflicted with the same weird car bug that seems to infect the rest of us. Let Ray know how much you appreciate his writing here.

I want to let you know that I’m writing this post (and have written others in the past) balancing a tiny human on my lap and trying to prevent my keyboard from falling off the edge of my Eames shell chair school desk.  It’s not the most comfortable setup, but this chair sure looks cool.  And isn’t that what it’s all about?  I mean, during my formative years, cars were shall we say, a little short on power, so looks and style was all we had.

Hooniverse Weekend Edition – Our Official Saab Aficionado

Editors Note: This weekend, Hooniverse will be running a series of posts introducing you to some of the new writers who are now in our part of the Hooniverse. Welcome Dan Lee who was one of the contributors at CarGuyDad, and should fit in quite nicely. So let’s welcome Dan, and wish him well as he settles in here at Hooniverse.

I do not know where my interest for all things automotive originated. My folks didn’t have any stories or unique cars during my childhood that would infect a young lad with the lust for things that go fast and look cool, it just sort of happened. Necessity to maintain my daily driver was most likely my largest influence.

Hooniverse Weekend Edition – NRT to OAK

Editors Note: This weekend, Hooniverse will be running a series of posts introducing you to some of the new writers who are now in our part of the Hooniverse. Please meet Jim Yu, and let him know how much you appreciate his contributions.

I am and have always been a car nut.  Growing up in Japan, Taiwan, and Orange County, I was surrounded by my collection of Tomica diecast cars.  My drawings in class alternated between a Lamborghini Countach and a Subaru GL Hatchback (Jackie Chan’s car in Cannonball Run).  When I learned how to read, I would clip out tiny used car ads from the local newspaper and Scotch tape them, in alphabetical order, by manufacturer, into a big notebook.  I learned how to drive in my step-dad’s brown Mercedes-Benz W116 450SEL and my mom’s white BMW E30 325i sedan. … Continue Reading

Hooniverse Weekend Edition – This is Your Newbie News Editor

Editors Note: This weekend, Hooniverse will be running a series of posts introducing you to some of the new writers who are now in our part of the Hooniverse. This time it’s Greg Kachadurian who is our own Hooniverse News Editor. Let Greg know how much you appreciate his writing here.

Like many of you, I love cars. I love many different types of cars, whether it’s a Ferrari 458 Italia or a ’67 Mustang Fastback. I love cars that capture my imagination, like the Pagani Zonda, and I love cars that draw my eyes to its body panels from miles away, like the Ford GT. I also cry a bit whenever I pass a junkyard and see what used to be a shiny new car rusting inside out with a Plymouth Neon sitting on top of it. Gran Turismo taught me how to drive and I can identify too many cars based solely on how they sound. I’m a little crazy when it comes to my obsession with cars and driving, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am also your news editor as of five months ago. If you’re interested in the story of my life, read on. Just bear with me as I try to make it sound interesting…

Hooniverse Weekend Edition – Writing for Hooniverse, Some Months On

Duct tape and a knock-off Gorillapod. Not a long-lifed setup.

This time it’s Antti Kautonen who has his own series of features called the Finnish Line. Let Antti know how much you appreciate his writing here.

This weekend, each one of us new guys steps on to the stage and rephrases themselves in the form of an informal introduction. For some, it’s their first post in terms of saying something about themselves instead of presenting a car; for some like me, it’s a chance to look at themselves in a newer light.

Hi, I’m that person. The person who at the drop of a pin can remember the cars that his parents have own since birth. The person who tries to keep his mouth shut and try not to correct someone when everything that is coming out their mouth is completely wrong. The person who thinks combing a Nissan Quest with the chassis and powertrain of the GT-R is the greatest creation mankind will ever see. Yeah, I’m that person.

That’s me in the photo.  I was born in Detroit, but I grew up in Wichita, Kansas.  I lived there until 2005, when I moved west to Salt Lake City, Utah.  I was a bit of a wreck when I finally left Kansas – I hadn’t taken care of myself, I was unhealthy and generally run-down.  Since then, I have turned a corner in life.  Click through for more about me, my turnaround, and my new life.
