…because I’m sick of looking at it. No, it’s not the staid mid-60s lines mixed with “banana is my favorite color” paint. In fact, it’s quite handsome, in its own purposeful way. With a built 440c.i. running through a built 727 hooked up to a 4.30:1 rearend it’s very purposeful. The real problem with this Dart is it just keeps coming up in my saved eBay searches. You see, this particular Dart has been for sale for at least five months. I know this because I just looked up a chat with Jeff from February 9th in which I suggest his muscle car impaired friend buy it. More info for the jumpers.

Ok, I lied. There’s really not much more to this car than the paint, and driveline. Per the seller:

440 cubic inch 10:1 compression pump gas friendly engine

New bottom end by Ricks Machine Shop #2 in Lakeside

Newly rebuilt 727 Torqueflite transmission by Walt Bilt Transmissions in Oceanside

Hurst Pro-Matic 2 shifter

New Driveshaft by Driveline Vista

New 4.30 8 ¾ inch Sure-Grip Rear End

New Holley 9381 830 CFM Race Carburetor (no choke)

Edelbrock TM7 Intake Manifold

Custom Headers

Huge P275/60R15 rear BFG Radial T/A Tires

Extra rear set of massive P295/65R15 BFG g-Force T/A Drag Radials

Interior:

2 Lightweight Bucket Seats up front

Rear Seat removed and area carpeted

Roll Bar

Very nice interior

This is a “no excuses” car, docile enough for everyday driving but always ready to put a big hurt on any street poser or rice rocket!

So yeah, a very fast, very yellow Dart for $10k, or best offer. Ten seems a bit steep, with seven to eight being more appropriate, but its perpetual re-listing suggests the seller’s thinking more like $9997.

Check it out on eBay motors with three days left on the auction.
Do you remember those photoshopped pictures of Porsches and Lambos and whatnot that were all squished and cartoonish looking? Of course you do, and who wouldn’t want a REAL ‘57 Chevy two door wagon one of those?

Offered up on Independence Missouri – the Show Me State – Craigslist, this bizarre contraption looks professionally done, but then again, so did Transformers 2. The now size 2 shoebox lacks much in description in the ad other than the revelation that it was bought by the seller’s husband off of eBay, and then never touched. Geez, I have R/C airplanes that could fit in that category too, but I don’t tell my wife that!

The car is said to roll with a three-speed stick, but no mention is made as to whether it has a six, an eight, or a gaggle of leprechauns on treadmills under the hood. It appears to have been made from a four-door wagon, thankfully rather than the uber-cool slant-pillared Nomad, and its lack of a splay of side trim suggests a low-end, perhaps commercial model as well.

Cragar mags and some wicked brown velour upholstery round out the visuals on this odd little one-off. If you find it strangely appealing, you’ll need to give Mrs. eBayer eight large for the opportunity to park it in your driveway. Maybe then your significant other will post it back on eBay?

Of course, much like any Playmate this many years on, it seems to need some cosmetic attention to get back up to centerfold par. Certainly a nip and tuck on the front quarter panel will be required, and no self-respecting Bunny would be seen near it without a respray in the original “Playboy Pink.”

Needs some serious airbrushing ...

It’s not for the attention-shy, that’s for sure – an AMX brings enough attention on its own without a Playboy-themed exterior treatment. Of course, it’s not rare or unique enough to attract disapproval for serious modifications. Imagine this: commission Simpson to work up some Nomex smoking jackets and a helmet with bunny ears, put a sinister race motor under that pink hood, and hit the track. License plate frame reading “Entertainment for Men” is entirely optional due to the potential for multiple interpretations.

Looking for passage to the Alderaan system? Blast off from Docking Bay 94 in this celebrity-owned! ‘83 Camaro, owned by a certain Mr. Lord Vader, Esq.

Luke...it is your destiny.

Star Wars nerds like me will know that it wasn’t James Earl Jones underneath that helmet—it was David Prowse, bodybuilder, weightlifter, a rather tall man, and whose high-pitched West Country accent made him sound like a “farmer,” according to Carrie Fisher. And “OWNED BY DARTH VADER” has a much sexier tinge to it than, say, “OWNED BY SOME OLD JACKED GUY FROM SOUTH ENGLAND.” What, his Tie Advanced x1 was in the shop? But alas, a dime-a-dozen 80s Camaro in America is a comparable rarity in the Old Country, even a non-running one, which in America would serve as fodder for a litany of “you know you’re a redneck” jokes.

So what does the Dark Lord of the Sith roll in when he’s on Corusant scoping out Twi’lek babes? Apparently, a turquoise, left-hand-drive 1983 Camaro Z28 with a 5.0 and a broken automatic. Rather ominously, the seller writes “there is currently no drive from the gearbox in any gear…indicating an internal fault with the gearbox.” Also, the horn doesn’t work, there’s a leak in the power steering, another leak in the exhaust, a shotgun-scattering of liberally spread rust, a stolen carburetor, and a “greeny/turquois” paint job presumably applied with a brush. But don’t despair, because “these 3rd gen camaro’s actually handle rather well too,” and, well, the Brits rather emphasize this “handling” thing.

You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought.

But the Dark Lord of the Sith doesn’t have to put up with leaky power steering, a blown exhaust, and empty power converters. He’s got admirals to Force-choke, midichlorian counts to brag about, emperors to throw off balconies. Is a celebrity’s name worth a dying F-Body, especially when James Earl Jones is more closely associated with Vader than Prowse? If so, then maybe Kenny Baker will have an easy time getting rid of his Mini Cooper, or Peter Mayhew unloading a 1966 Dodge A-100 pickup. Because that’s definitely what Chewbacca would drive.

She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid.

If the phrase ‘1979 Turbo Esprit’ causes you consternation, don’t be alarmed—the factory Turbo Esprit wasn’t launched until 1980. Of course, the phrase ‘GNX-powered Esprit’ may engender even greater shock, but don’t worry, both that, and the car, will soon pass.

Offered up on eBay, is this ‘79 S2 Esprit whose 140-bhp 901 engine has been replaced with a Ken Duttweiler built 3.8-litre six from a Buick GNX, easily doubling the ponies.

In addition to the pro-built Buick mill, the seller claims that the car has undergone a makeover, incorporating a number of later S3 bodywork elements, only, as he puts it, done right. That means the fatter bumpers, duck’s ass spoiler and side skirts are appended to the S2 body. Over all that is a coat of mobster black that he also claims cost twelve grand in 1987. That may be the case, but a 23 year old paint job is still a 23 year old paint job, and as the Esprit’s fiberglass body suffers from greater temperature cycling pressures than does a steel one, it’s likely that it’s looking better in the pics than in real life.

That being said, getting in and firing up that Buick bad boy would probably mean it could be as ugly as a rhino’s nutsack, and you’d still love it. Quarter mile times are claimed to by in the 11s, and while lining up next to the Christmas Tree probably isn’t the first thing you’d think to do with an Esprit, it’s still nice to know you’d have that in your pocket, especially the next time some douche challenges your mettle at a stoplight.

The car looks really completely realized, but not in a show-car kind of way, but looking like a driver, and with the iffy Veglia gauges replaced with back-lit Smiths units, you can tell exactly what’s going on under that heavily slatted hatch.

Esprits have always been cars of compromise. Their extraordinary good looks and handling constantly tempered by ergonomic catastrophes and durability that would shame a Socialist. This black beauty has had a lot of wrongs righted, and if the claimed $84,000 invested is true, it was done with a modicum of professionalism.

As with any modified car sold, there’s no way the seller will get back his investment, but it’s always included as a way to engender a higher sense of value in the offering. Right now the Esprit is hovering around $16,000 with 24 bids and the reserve unmet. That indicates a good deal of interest in the car, although with 4 days to go, it’s obviously too early for any bidding wars to get started, still it’ll be interesting to see what happens come Saturday.
