Continuing on with the Weekend Edition, and when was the last time you saw one of these? This is a 1996 Mazda MPV Van wit the 4WD system, in relatively good condition, and with relatively low mileage. The Mazda MPV was rather unique when compared to other Minivans of the era in the fact that it was primarily a Rear Wheel Drive platform, and offered 3 front hinged doors (later models offered 4 doors), which didn’t follow the accepted Minivan Formula at this time. However, do you think this Mazda is more interesting because of the differences, or less so?

Welcome to the Sunday Edition of the Hooniverse Weekend, and I will start out this edition with what is probably a Unicorn when it comes to Volkswagens… This is a 1978 B1 Dasher, and it is one of the later Fuel Injected versions. When was the last time you saw one of these (or even its close cousin, the Audi Fox) in anything approaching acceptable condition? Make the jump and see if your want level rises, or not…

1974 Rolls Royce Corniche - Google Chrome 9272014 113859 AM.bmp

I received this tip from our very own LongRoofian because it is being sold near where he lives… But why, for whatever ungodly reason, would the seller use Craigslist to sell a classic Rolls Royce in the first place? Make the jump and see if it’s a car worth investing in, or maybe not…

Mercury Other Ghia Edition eBay - Google Chrome 9272014 92258 AM.bmp

Welcome to another Hooniverse Weekend Edition, and I thought I would start out with this eBay listing of a 1976 Mercury Grand Monarch Ghia Sedan… Wait, what is a Mercury Grand Monarch? Well, these cars were built as a near top of the line model to bridge the gap between the Luxury Imports being offered during this time period, and yet offer all the comfort and plushness expected of the full-sized domestic Ford Models. Make the break, and I will fill you in…

Hooniverse Obscure Muscle Car Garage – The 2008-09 Saab 9-7x Aero

Welcome to the Hooniverse Obscure Muscle Car Garage, a feature in which I try and convince that Limited Edition Sport Utility Vehicles can be thought of as a Muscle Car, and then back up this hypothesis with actual facts and figures, along with a whole lotta images, just to distract you. Within this series, I have tried unsuccessfully to convince you that the Saleen Explorer XP8, and the Hummer H3 Alpha could be considered Muscle, as each one of those nominees was voted down by our faithful readers. Well, I’m going to try and convince you that this very limited SUV, packing a 6.0L V8 that produces 390HP, combined with an exclusive (to the brand) All Wheel Drive System is the real deal. Presenting the Saab 9-7x Aero, affectionately known as the TrollBlazer…

Classic Captions – The E10 Toyota Corolla Sprinter Edition

corolla1

Welcome to the Hooniverse Classic Captions Post, and it’s that time of the week in which this feature appears, so let’s review the premise; I search for images that were used by the car companies in their print advertising or brochures, and it is your job to provide a humorous caption that is some how tied in with the image. This week we feature a Japanese Coupe from the Sixties, but we will get to that in a moment…

14851976123_bf0413d250_h-003

Last time, we had an image of a lovely young lady in Horse Riding Attire, and the participation rate was a little off, which was somewhat surprising because I thought the image would spice things up, but what the hell do I know? Anyway, our runner up comment was from P161911, and the caption was pretty humorous: “They told me that Ferraris were great for attracting women. Forget this, I’m getting a Subaru”. It is amazing that Subaru has become the obvious choice for lesbian couples, or is that just a cliche’? However, there was one caption that received more votes…

And the winning comment was from Devin, (Yes Again…), and his caption was very short and to the point: “Annie Hall 2: Annie Hauls Ass.” This was well thought out for the image provided, so congratulations Devin on winning this edition of the Hooniverse Classic Captions Contest…

It’s now time to take a look at this weeks entry, and I found this image floating around the internet of a Toyota Corolla Sprinter, and found out that it was scanned in by Matt Desmond, who owns the web site Madtype.com. It looks like this Corolla is from the 1967-68 time frame, and it shows the new Fastback Sprinter style with a trio of musicians, in a field of some sorts. It is a very good looking image, but what does it mean? Is the Corolla Groovy, Jazzy, or whatever the slang of the time was? I can understand the Drum Set, but the Electric Guitar and Amplifier is a real stretch because of the lack of a power source (Like, where do you plug in?). And is this really a way to sell a Japanese Car in the 60’s? (You can click here to see the full size image)

You have the next five days to come up with a great caption. The editors will deliberate on the merits of each entry, and after contemplating our own caption (I wonder what instrument she plays…), we will pronounce a winner. So, get to work and create you’re own caption for this vintage image.

Weekend Edition Quick Hit – Your dose of Malaise for the Weekend; A 1977 Mercury Cougar XR7

Jim Brennan September 21, 2014 For Sale, Weekend Edition

MERCURY COUGAR 1977 XR7 BEAUTIFUL CAR XXXXXXXXX - Google Chrome 9212014 32402 PM.bmp

You know it wouldn’t be a Hooniverse Weekend without at least one feature that included a Detroit Boat made during the Malaise Era, and why not showcase one from a dead nameplate? This is a 1977 Mercury Cougar XR7 that shared a great deal with the Ford Thunderbird and Torino at that time. This had every excess 70’s styling cliche of the period… And that’s what makes it so damn desirable (at least it does for me…).

CUSTOM FIBERGLASS KIT CAR BUILT ON 1983 PONTIAC TRANSAM $1500 OR BO - Google Chrome 9212014 21753 PM.bmp

On the Weekend I usually look at quite a few Facebook Feeds to see if there is anything out there that I can bring to your attention, and look what appeared on the Future $500 race cars! Even if the owner doesn’t know it yet Facebook Page. This thing was once a 1983 Pontiac Trans Am, but I am not sure what the Kit Car Make is… The only thing about this car I know is this: It’s a Hot Mess….

Once in a while, there is a serious Craigslist listing that seems to take the form of hero worship. This is one of those listings. 1985 Mazda 626 LX Diesel, Plus Parts Car! - Google Chrome 9212014 101111 AM.bmp

Welcome to the Sunday Edition of the Hooniverse Weekend, and I think I will start out with this mind blower… This is a 1985 Mazda 626 LX Diesel, a model that is very rare in the first place, but this seller actually has a part car to throw into the mix. So, raise your hand if you knew that Mazda once sold a 626 Diesel here in North America… To be honest, I had no idea this car existed…
