Weekend Edition Quick Hit – A 1983 Dodge 600 Sedan; When was the last time you saw one?

Jim Brennan September 13, 2014 For Sale, Weekend Edition

1983 Dodge 600 - 58,000 miles - Nice! - Google Chrome 9122014 80755 PM.bmp

Welcome to another edition of the Weekend Edition of Quick Hit Postings. One of the reasons why I do these is the fact that they seem to create a lot of discussion throughout the weekend, and I seem to hit upon the right mix of desirable vehicles that are for sale, right along side a bunch of, well, crap… So what side of the ledger does this Dodge 600 fall? This is one of the early stretch “K” cars in a vain effort to offer different vehicles for the Chrysler and Dodge showrooms during this time period. So once again, is this car desirable or crap?

Hooniverse Obscure Muscle Car Garage – The 1984-85 Ford LTD LX

5717622912_4ab1bae823.jpg (500×386) - Google Chrome 9112014 72838 AM.bmp

Welcome to the Hooniverse Obscure Muscle Car Garage, a regular feature which aims to expand the notion of what a muscle car is, and to learn something new while doing so. Performance was seriously lacking during the first half of the 1980’s. With emphasis placed on ever more stringent environmental regulations on top of growing concerns about fuel economy, there seemed to be no place to turn if you wanted an affordable, fast, and fun car. That was all starting to change after 1982, when Ford dropped their 5.0L HO V8 under the hood of the then 4-year-old Mustang. Finally, a new car with that old V8 soundtrack, and it seemed like utopia during the dark days of the “Malaise” era. But something else was on the horizon at Ford. It took a requirement from the Bob Bondurant Racing School of High Performance Driving, and a couple of engineering mules, to produce an invisible performance car. Let’s take a look at a 4-door Mustang, the Ford LTD LX.

Classic Captions – The 1978 Lincoln Continental Town Car Edition

14756244838_88d4045600_b

Welcome to the Hooniverse Classic Captions Post, and it’s that time of the week in which this feature appears, so let’s review the premise; I search for images that were used by the car companies in their print advertising or brochures, and it is your job to provide a humorous caption that is some how tied in with the image. This week we take a look at a Lincoln Town Car in a setting that is void of anything interesting…

1987-Ninja250-Ad

Last time, we had an image of a Motorcycle at a local diner, and the participation rate was nothing to write home about, but hope springs eternal… It was rather difficult to score a winner and a runner-up this week, as the top vote receivers were all commenting on the Rock Store Diner that was used as a backdrop for the Ninja Ad. As such, I am going to try and award both a winner and a runner-up from comments other than the ones dealing with this location. So, the runner-up belonged to Batshitbox (Yes, again!) and it went like this: “In a near total reversal of typical plot lines, Starfleet Chief Engineer Apex Hunter makes first contact with a planet full of male models..” Very funny, but there was one caption that was just a bit better…

And the winning comment was from mkep819, and his caption went like this: “Boy Bands & Bikes never quite caught on as big as Cars & Coffee.” To everyone who participated, this was my personal favorite this week, so congratulations mkep819 on winning this edition of the Hooniverse Classic Captions Contest…

It’s now time to take a look at this weeks entry, and I reached back into the toy box that is Alden Jewell’s Flickr Account, and retrieved this Lincoln Continental Town Car image from 1978. The setting is very puzzling, but I will try and describe it. I think the photographer was trying to portray a group of people leaving a theater, but the actual setting looks like a business park, or an incomplete shopping center. As far as the people, they seemed to be dressed for all occasions… So let’s try and see what they are dressed for (I’ll leave that up to you). There also seems to be only one car for all of these people, and I’m sure that as big as this Lincoln is, you’re not going to get that many people inside of it. So what do you think the vision of this Photo Shoot was, and isit really a good image to use to highlight the Town Car? (You can click here to see the full size image)

You have the next five days to come up with a great caption. The editors will deliberate on the merits of each entry, and after contemplating our own caption (I wonder where all the other cars are…), we will pronounce a winner. So, get to work and create you’re own caption for this interesting image.

Weekend Edition Real-Quick Hit – A Blue 1977 Honda Civic, with a Brief Listing…

Jim Brennan September 7, 2014 For Sale, Weekend Edition

HONDA CIVIC - Google Chrome 972014 10357 PM.bmp

This is going to be brief and to the point… The first generation Honda Civic is a Milestone Automobile, and there are few left for anyone to admire (They have virtually disappeared from the Northeast years ago). So, when this Craigslist listing popped up, I knew it was perfect fodder for the Weekend.

Here we go on the Sunday Edition of the Hooniverse Weekend, and I thought I would open up with a car built in Britain 45 years ago. The fact that this car isn’t just a pile of iron oxide is amazing in itself, and it probably should be saved, but are you the person who will bring this car back?

You all know I have a feature that appears on Friday called the Obscure Muscle Car Garage, which it gives you the chance to vote on cars that you have never thought of as Muscle Cars, and grant them entry into the Garage. Last Friday, you didn’t agree with me that a Buick Lacrosse was an Obscure Muscle Car (with one comment that suggested that I fold the series altogether (!)). Well, here is a car that I would have probably included, and it is now for sale on Craigslist…

Continuing on with the Weekend Edition, where I troll around Facebook, Craigslist, Auto Trader, and eBay for vehicles that I think are worth mentioning, and I hope you think so as well. Here is probably one of my favorite Full Sized Bruisers of the 70’s, the Plymouth Fury Coupe. This one has received a lot of TLC over the past couple of years, and it is now up for sale… It needs some more love, but at what price?

For Sale 1985 Alfa 6 Turbo Diesel - Alfa Romeo Bulletin Board & Forums - Google Chrome 962014 111328 AM.bmp

I was trolling around the web for weekend postings, and I just stumbled on to this Alfa Romeo Bulletin Board, filled with interesting Alfa cars and parts for sale. But it was one intriguing listing that caught my eye, and it tied in nicely with Friday’s Question of the day… *What’s History’s Homeliest Italian Sedan? Rob used an image of an Alfa Romeo 6 Sedan for illustration purposes. I didn’t think this particular Alfa was homely, just bland. Well, there is one for sale, and it’s a Turbo Diesel no less…

1985 Pulse Autocycle, RARE, Unique! - Google Chrome 962014 95650 AM.bmp

I am going to begin this weekend with a vehicle that I thought I would never find on the list that is Craig… A Pulse Autocycle. Back in September of 2012, I did a Weekend of Discovery, and this peculiar vehicle was one of the postings, and you can read all about it here. It is a strange and wonderful vehicle, but would you want to own one?

Hooniverse Obscure Muscle Car Garage – The 2008-09 Buick LaCrosse Super

Buick La Crosse Super 2008 Picture #2 - Google Chrome 8282014 122739 PM.bmp

Welcome to the Hooniverse Obscure Muscle Car Garage, a regular feature which tries and educate the readers who frequent this site that Muscle Cars have existed for some time, and that sometimes their configuration is not necissarily the norm… Within this series I have tried to convince you that Front Wheel Drive Sedans, equipped with V-8 Power, could be classified as Obscure Muscle, but not all of you are convinced. You all thought that the Pontiac Grand Prix GXP was a Muscle Car by the slimmest of margins. However, you denied entry into the Obscure Muscle Car Garage to the very similar Chevrolet Impala SS V-8, and the Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS V-8. Well, it is now time for you to decide what fate you have in store for the Buick LaCrosse Super… Is it in or is it out?
