Weekend Edition Quick Hit – An Original 1983 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible; Can you believe this has been driven over 100,000 miles?

1983 Chrysler Le Baron Mark Cross Town and Country 2dr Convertible - Google Chrome 9202014 24540 PM.bmp

I have kind of a confession to make, and it is one you have probably read about in some of my past postings. I look on eBay and Craigslist for all things Chrysler. I know, it is a sign of weakness, but I search for Newports, Furies, Polaras, Monacos, and quite often, LeBarons. This one cropped up, and I’m surprised that the car has as many miles on it as it does. So, what do you think it’s worth?

Weekend Edition Quick Hit – What about a functioning 1988 Isuzu I-Mark Turbo found on Craigslist?

Jim Brennan September 20, 2014 For Sale, Weekend Edition

1988 Isuzu I-Mark RS Turbo with handling by Lotus - Google Chrome 9202014 92112 AM.bmp

Here on the Weekends I try and find some of the most wretched vehicles ever to grace the showroom floor, and to gauge your reaction to those vehicles. To many, Isuzu was said to be Japan’s Fiat, producing some interesting cars that were not completely engineered properly. They had a reputation of being designed well (Italy’s Giugiaro was most prevalent), and with the help of Lotus Engineering, they handled well. But the cars themselves have always been less than what they could have been. So, does that make this 1988 I-Mark Turbo any less desirable?

Hooniverse Obscure Muscle Car Garage – The Oldsmobile Aurora V-8

oldsmobile_aurora_1995_images_1

Welcome to the Hooniverse Obscure Muscle Car Garage, a feature in which we try and introduce you to muscle cars you may have never considered as such, and to try and convince you that they in fact are… Once again, I am here on this site trying to convince you that another FWD Sedan with a V-8 Engine can be a Modern Day Muscle Car. Most of the FWD cars that have been profiled have engines that are somewhat powerful and driving the Front Wheels, and with the correct electronic aids they not only perform as well as some of the real Fire-Breathing Muscle Cars of the past, but they also handle well. We have inducted other GM FWD Cars like the Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, but rejected the very similar Chevrolet Impala SS, the Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, as well as the Pontiac Bonneville GXP. Well, let’s try and see if this Oldsmobile model can be inducted into the Obscure Muscle Car Garage. Introducing the Oldsmobile Aurora, powered by a smaller version of the Cadillac Northstar V-8 under the hood…

Classic Captions – The 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS Edition

14851976123_bf0413d250_h-003

Welcome to the Hooniverse Classic Captions Post, and it’s that time of the week in which this feature appears, so let’s review the premise; I search for images that were used by the car companies in their print advertising or brochures, and it is your job to provide a humorous caption that is some how tied in with the image. This week we break out the riding crop and breeches to saddle an Italian Stallion, but we will get to that in a moment…

14756244838_88d4045600_b

Last time, we had an image of a crowd in a deserted office park, and the participation rate was a little bit better, so let’s see if we can step it up a notch or two… we had two clear favorites this time, and our runner up comment was from GTXcellent, and he seems to be producing some great captions lately, like this one: “Well you can tell by the way I use my walk, I’m a woman’s man: and another woman’s man, and a man’s man, and an old ladies’ man, and some teenager’s man, and a married couple’s man. No time to talk. How am I stayin’ aliiiiiiiiiivvvvvve? Stayin’ alive. Pimpin’ ain’t easy”. Ah Yes, the Bee Gee’s Stayin’ Alive… that sure takes me back, but there was one comment that was the run away favorite…

And the winning comment was from smalleyxb122, (Yes Again…), and his caption was very short and to the point: “Taking a Lincoln to the theater? This will not end well.” This had the groan factor as well, and I wondered why I didn’t think of it when I decided to use the image in the first place. Congratulations smalleyxb122 on winning this edition of the Hooniverse Classic Captions Contest…

It’s now time to take a look at this weeks entry, and I decided to raid Alden Jewell’s Flickr Account again, and use this Ferrari 308 GTS image from 1979. There is a girl sitting on top of the hood of the Ferrari, wearing the finest in Equestrian Gear. The riding pants are called Breeches, and she sports a pair of riding boots, a riding vest, and just to break with tradition, driving gloves, and a golf cap! Now, if she was hired by a gentleman for a little, well how am I going to put this… A little play time, all she would need is a riding crop… (Oh, go look it up will you!) But to be sitting on a Ferrari in this attire, well, yes, it is appropriate… I guess this was a way of selling a Ferrari in the late 70’s, as it did nothing but generate pure lust from everyone who saw one, but is this really the correct way to sell a Sports Car? (You can click here to see the full size image)

You have the next five days to come up with a great caption. The editors will deliberate on the merits of each entry, and after contemplating our own caption (Yes, I know sex sells…), we will pronounce a winner. So, get to work and create you’re own caption for this provocative image.

Weekend Edition Quick Hit – A 1988 Isuzu Impulse available in New Jersey; Become Joe Isuzu…

Jim Brennan September 14, 2014 For Sale, Weekend Edition

1988 Isuzu Impulse (low miles) Very Clean!!! - Google Chrome 9142014 94913 AM.bmp

Continuing on with our Weekend Edition, and I spotted this Isuzu Impulse listing on Craigslist, and immediately thought of one of the more offbeat advertising campaigns of the 1980’s, the one in which Comedian David Leisure became Joe Isuzu. All the television spots were memorable, but I wonder if they really helped the brand in moving the metal, so to speak. At around this time period, Isuzu produced one of the most inspiring vehicles of the decade, and it went by many names around the globe (like the Isuzu Piazza in Japan) but was known as the Impulse here in the states. I still like them, but do you?

Other Makes Rolls Royce Woodie eBay - Google Chrome 9132014 80257 PM.bmp

Welcome to the Sunday Edition of the Hooniverse Weekend, and I thought I would start out with something quite spectacular. This is a 1929 Rolls Royce 20HP Chassis that was mated to a Wooden Structure Wagon Body sometime during the 1050’s. This was suppose to be one of the last 20HP Chassis produced, and the seller has the build sheet for the Wagon Body. So is this Rolls Royce a Blue Chip Collectible?

Weekend Edition Quick Hit – A 1977 Dodge Monaco Brougham Wagon, in Latrobe Pennsylvania…

Jim Brennan September 13, 2014 For Sale, Weekend Edition

1977 Dodge Monaco Brougham Wagon - Google Chrome 9122014 83356 PM.bmp

Well, it looks like I am going to highlight another Dodge for this Weekend Edition of Quick Hits, only this particular Dodge has a few more miles under it’s chassis. The Dodge Monaco nameplate was transferred to the venerable “B” body Chrysler configuration for two model years only, 1977 and 1978. It was one of the more confusing times for Chrysler in which they offered this version of the Monaco as well as the full sized Royal Monaco. Confused? Well, the buying public was, but that is not our problem at the moment. We have to decide if this Monaco Wagon is desirable or not…
