JDM Legends Meet: Photo Dump

Most cruise nights are pretty predictable.  There will be several Tri-5 Chevrolets, plenty of Mustangs and Camaros, a few rat rods, and some muscle cars.  After a while, they start to blend together and it takes something really special to grab attention.  The meet at JDM Legends wasn’t like that.  The cars that showed up were all so unusual (save a couple of Subaru WRXs) and rarely seen that they made this meet seem like a whole new world.  There were Starlets, 620s, MR2s, and Cressidas, to name a few.

Sears Pointless Highlight: TransMission IMPossible

Imp[image: caranddriver.com]

The guys over at Flaming A-Holes racing put together one of the greatest Lemons cars in the history of ever.  A Hillman/Sunbeam Imp.  Not only did it start the race, which was an impressive acheivment, it accomplished several other amazing feats.  First, it raced all day Saturday.  Second, it raced all day Sunday.  (All with the original Rootes Group rear engine goofiness, mind you.)  Third, it won the coveted Index of Effluency award.

Was that enough for this little British turd?  No way.  Along the way, it did some great drifting.  Click through for a short video compilation of the Imp racking up style points in turn 11.

That’s right folks, the dual drivetrained, half MR2, half FX Lemons insanity is up and running.  There were a few bugs that needed sorting out with the transmission and fuel delivery systems, but once it ran right, it ran right!

This post is mostly pictures – about 9,000 words worth.  Click past the break to bathe in the crazy awesomeness.

FX32 Lemons Build Update: Only Two Weeks Left

March 22 is coming at us like a freight train, and the new Lemons car needs a lot more work before it is ready for the track.  That said, a ton of work has already been done.  So far, the guys over at the asylum known as Volatile Ram/Stick Figure Racing have cut two cars in half, welded the good parts back together, swapped out the rear engine, built a roll cage, devised a way to deliver fuel, electricity, and cool two different engines.  The rest should be a walk in the park, right?

Adorable 1949 Mercury Is Adorable

There are people out there who build hot rods, and then there are people who build hot rods.  Ernie Adams is one of those people who builds hot rods.  This Mercury looks like an ordinary hot rod until you realize that it’s miniature.  It’s actually an 11/16th scale replica of the original…and it’s brilliant.

FX32 Lemons Build Update

The guys at Stick Figure/Volitile Ram Racing continue to amaze.  They have the (Mr.) FX32 right on schedule to make it to Sonoma in March.  For anyone who isn’t familiar with this project, it boils down to this:  Weld the back half of an MR2 to the front half of an FX16 to make a single race car with two seperate drivetrains driving all four wheels.  What could go wrong?
