2019 Chevrolet Camaro Design Discussion
AKA Let’s All Dunk on the new Chevy Camaro

The automotive world was recently introduced to the newly refreshed Chevrolet Camaro. Reactions have been mixed, at best. Regardless, this is an important car to the enthusiast market, so I thought it might be best to get the opinions of the Hooniverse staff. Surely we all have different thoughts on this oneā€¦ right?

Read on to find out.

McLaren, Honda, Some Cameras, and You

At the start of the prior Formula One season, McLaren Honda announced it would be letting Amazon produce a Prime Original series about the 2017 season. The fact that the series is still being released after this awful season was done and dusted, and divorce filed, has me more interested than I was when the show was first announced.  … Continue Reading

Forza Horizon 3 and the Xbox One X: The Perfect Sunday Driver

I don’t know if I’ve ever really looked at a video game the way that Forza Horizon 3 begs you to do so. I don’t know if I’ve ever gotten into the rhythm of a driving game quite the way Forza Horizon 3 lulls you into doing so. And in fact, looking back at it, I don’t know if I’ve ever just enjoyed a driving game as much as I did Horizon 3. Now, thanks to a free update and the new Xbox One X, I’ve found myself getting lost in the digital outback all over again. … Continue Reading

Forza Motorsport 7: A Gem with Some Minor Flaws

Patrick Hoffstetter October 10, 2017 Forza

This past weekend, I got in some proper video game time. It was then that I truly remembered how great it is when you can make a racing sim silly yet still technical. There’s a perverse joy found when you take all of the technology and handling models that Turn 10 Studios developed, and then you throwing some ridiculous vehicles its way. I boosted the lovely Hoonicorn as far as it would go, turned all the assists off, then loaded up the old Circuit De La Sarthe and went wild. A fresh version of Forza came alive once more.  … Continue Reading

Lone Star LeMans 2017: Baby Come Back

If you’re a listener of The DFL Show, you might have already heard some of my thoughts on the “revised” WEC calendar for next year. With COTA off the list for now, I’m left sitting here in the media center at the circuit wondering if this will be my last ride with the series that really opened my eyes to the joys of endurance racing. The joy of prototypes. the joy of globetrotting to some of the best tracks in the world. And the joy of some of the best people and drivers in all of racing. This is where I pull out my boombox and stand outside the FIA’s window and beg them to come back to Austin. … Continue Reading

F1 2017: The Game We’ve Been Waiting For

Patrick Hoffstetter September 7, 2017 Formula 1

Since Codemasters got the Formula One license way back in 2008, we’ve seen some real highs and lows of the series. From the low of their first game, which was only available on the Wii and the PSP, and highs of games like F1 2012, it seems like we’ve been waiting for another fresh version to show what they can do. This is that game.

This is the game the series itself needs as it moves into the brave, new digital future. A game with broad appeal, but with enough detail and depth to really have you digging into and exploring this world. Easy to pickup, it’s also hard to put down.

F1 is back, and it really is better than ever with F1 2017.

DFL with Racers: The Ryan Eversley Interview

When I heard that PWC was coming to town, I knew I had to finally get Ryan Eversley to sit down and record with me so we could do the DFL/DWR crossover that no one but myself wanted. And so selflessly, I sat down last Thursday with Mr. Eversley over some food.

It’s a long interview, at just about two and a half hours, but it’s well worth the listen.  We talk about his plans for next year, news about the Penske situation, and a bunch of great stories from behind the scenes of Dinner with Racers.

Quick Pic: The Infiniti Prototype 9 is a throwback to an era before Infiniti existed

Infiniti, known for selling tarted up Nissans to people that yearn for the old days of Skylines, has shocked the automotive world with one of most oddball and stunning concepts we’ve seen in a long time. It’s inspired by the amazing and daring Grand Prix cars from the 30’s and 40’s. Yet instead of a giant V12 belching flames and smoke, it’s the conceptual running gear for the next-generation Nissan Leaf.

Yes, seriously.

The coolest concept Infiniti has ever thrown together has a borrowed drivetrain from something… a bit less cool. Crazy right? Hats off to everyone that came together to make this wonderful thing happen.

I just hope it gets driven.

Fun and Frustration with Forza Horizon 3’s Hot Wheels Expansion

Well, I’ve sat on this longer than I wanted to because I’m still not sure how to feel about this most recent release from Playground Games and Microsoft. While the idea is perfect and brings some of the silliest moments in Forza history, I find the execution lacking. Moments of fun are peppered by long periods of frustration. The entire thing feels expensive, but without much real substance. It’s a befuddling thing.  … Continue Reading

Quick Pic: Hot Lap; Hot Car

Well, as apart of this AAP Sports car showdown weekend, Mercedes was nice enough to grant me a passenger lap in this beautiful AMG GT-S. And, since it wasn’t my first rodeo in the side seat of a supercar around the track, my driver, AJ, decided to light them up wherever he could to give me almost a full drift lap of COTA. For now, enjoy the beautiful Mercedes as I try to wipe the smile off my face.
