V.I.S.I.T. And Long Shots: A Pretty Sweet Porsche Twofer

So this olelongrooffan has determined that I need to quit hanging out over in that Slacktivism group over at that Book about my Face and reestablish a periodic series of postings here in the Hooniverse. After inadvertently deleting (albeit one) image from my trip to the Daytona International Speedway’s Inaugural Red Bull RallyCross (it was pretty cool even if I was the oldest Hoon there) that I attended a couple weekends ago, I thought I would share yet another Long Shots siting with my fellow Hoons.

So a week or so ago, this olelongrooffan was heading up the Tamiami Trail here in toney Naples, Florida to pick up some grub at my local Publix, and I spotted this couple cruising right along having what looked like the time of their lives. In that sweet ragtop, I would be feeling the same.

The look and tone of this ride sure allowed this olelongrooffan to Celebrate Life. And the second half of this Porsche twofer? Well making the jump would be required to see that.

Hooniverse Asks Bonus Edition: For What Should I Be Looking?

So this weekend up at my old stomping grounds, more commonly known at the Daytona International Speedway, the France family is hosting the inaugural Red Bull Rally Cross race at that venue. It is a two day event, (Friday and Saturday) and this olelongrooffan will be attending on Friday. Yes my fellow Hoons, you read that correctly, Friday. The dude that signs my paycheck has granted me a rare day off to attend my virginal rally cross event. Why not Saturday you may ask? I have been honored to spend a couple days with my oldest brother Bob hanging by his pool and enjoying a cold beverage or two.

My attendance at the former event is what leads to this Bonus Edition of Hooniverse Asks. As this is my first time at a stadium style event of this nature, what is the cool sh*t this olelongrooffan should check out? If any of my fellow Hoons have a suggestion or two, please leave them in the comment section. I’ll be checking in regularly. Thanks in advance Hoons.

Hoonitales: Down On The Farm

A whiles back this olelongrooffan shared with my fellow Hoons a tale associated with bovine, Country Squires, farms and a Model A. If you are so inclined, you can check that Hoonitale out here. Now, as always, I am certain my fellow Hoons are wondering just what the heck does this Daytona Beach image of thejeepjunkie’s livery has to do with the title of this post. Well, this olelongrooffan would suggest a jump on through would answer that question.

Long Shots: 1971 Pontiac Grand Prix

So, part of the activities this olelongrooffan enjoys as a part of my work day is performing customer walk throughs of existing model and speculative homes the company which provides me enough money to keep TheSmartOne in college sells on a fairly regular basis. For the most part this is pretty cool until I come across an older model home that was had the slab for it built to low for the driveway to properly drain to the street. As a result, a trip to my local drainage supply house is required to purchase drainage supplies necessary for my guys to install a drain sized to allow for rain runoff to do just that, runoff. That is opposed to back flowing into a million dollar coach home garage.

But, as a result, the cool thing for this olelongrooffan and, hopefully, my fellow Hoons is that I get provided the opportunity to stumble across some pretty sweet stuff. And one of those things would be this 1971 Pontiac Grand Prix. Ironically enough, it was available in front of a trailer supply house and parked out where it couldn’t be missed. Check it out after the jump.

V.I.S.I.T.: Two Wheel Tuesday: A Lovely Cafe Racer

Now, this olelongrooffan does not hesitate to admit that I know nearly nothing about motorcycles, although I am learning more every week thanks to a certain Hoon contributor who is providing that knowledge to all of we Hoons. But, having said that, I do recognize something special when I see a certain two wheeled ride. And this was one of those times.

I don’t have a lot to offer on the specifics of this except that is a Honda and another image seen after the jump.

Long Shots: 1963 Rover 3 Litre Automatic

So it was a whiles back this olelongrooffan  was out and about seeing what could be seen. One of the things I spotted was that 1969 BMW parts car wannabe. Yeah only someone here in the Hooniverse would recommend talking the guy down to 66% of his asking price and snagging that ride for potential use as a donor car at some point in the future. Yeah, I love it here.

Anyways, after checking out that rusty ride, the owner mentioned this olelongrooffan may just be interest in what he had out back. And I was. With the rising sun reflection on the front windscreen, I couldn’t help but think that in 1963 the European export market was seeing another type rising sun reflecting upon it. And that rising sun was coming from the other side of the Pacific Ocean in the form of the soon to be burgeoning Japanese car export market.

But in the meantime, let’s take a look at something from Rusty’s neck o-the-woods.

Last Call: Project SOTU: The Charles Barrett Special

LongRoofian July 16, 2014 Project Cars

running 016

Today here in the Hooniverse, we have spent the day reviewing the status of our Project Cars. Well, it is only appropriate this olelongrooffan should share the status of The Charles Barrett Special. I am embarrassed enough but I have to share this with all ya’all. My 1973 AMC Jeep Commando has spent the better part of the last year resting comfortably beneath a canvas top pole barn up in The Birthplace of Speed, totally neglected by thejeepjunkie and this olelongrooffan. My apologies to Charles Barrett.

Well, there is always next year.

Long Shots: 1969 BMW 2500

So round these here parts of FantasyLand there are a few industrial parks housing motorcar repair centers. It was out in front of one of these shops this olelongrooffan recently spotted this rusty ole beauty. I have been considering the purchase of an additional means of transporting my old butt to work; one which gets a little better gas mileage than my longerroof. Yeah, as a part of the semi recent promotion this olelongrooffan received, my regular attendance at one of our communities nearly an hour’s drive away is required. My fellow Hoons are welcome to make the jump to see if this one is the right new ride for me.

Long Shots: Sebring Sunbird

So there this olelongrooffan was, cruising down Highway 98, less than a mile from the Sebring International Raceway and just beside a mom-n-pop fruit stand (delicious Georgia peaches BTW) was parked this late ’70’s Pontiac Sunbird. It looked in decent shape less the fading red paint on the bonnet.

Tech Day at The 24 Hours Of LeMons Humidi TT at Sebring International Raceway

So, on July 4th, 238 years ago our Founding Fathers signed a document that created these United States of America and this olelongrooffan was the lucky recipient of that event by being awarded a rare Friday off work. Alternately, the 24 Hours of LeMons Powers That Be decided to schedule their Tech Day up at the Sebring International Raceway on this very day just so this olelongrooffan could make the 120 mile trek up that way to see what could be seen this day. And I did.

Now as some of my fellow Hoons may remember, back when I was schlepping trailers for a living, this olelongrooffan tried to talk a security dude out at the Daytona International Speedway into letting me park my olebeaterpickemup truck outside the inspection window at that track and I was ultimately denied that opportunity. Well, today, my fellow Hoons, I did not ask permission to park where I did, just off pit road, to gather the above image. Just because I could.

I arose work early, realized that task was not a part of my day this day and rolled over and slept another hour. By the time I got up I was rather restless and got on down (actually up) the various roads between Naples and Sebring and arrived before many of the participants for the Tech Inspection due to start around 1pm EST. As this olelongrooffan was passing by that Security Babe at the entrance, I had my $30 admission price ready to hand to her. (Note To Self…be sure to put the squeeze on the Hooniverse Overlords prior to attendance to any function in the future!) She stated that she thought spectators were not allowed in the paddock area this day. Subconsciously, this olelongrooffan chuckled and thought to myself, “I’ll see what I can do.”

My fellow Hoons are free to make the jump to see the results of whether this olelongrooffan had any luck in gaining admission to that hallowed paddock area this day.
