Truck Thursday: 1952 Dodge M37 PowerWagon For Sale

00q0q_dgr4ngs7tgw_600x450

Every now and again I show up on Craigslist and just type in the word “Project” to see what comes up. This time I was not as disappointed as I usually am. This lovely old Military truck came up and I was instantly enamored. I technically have the time and the space, but being that I just bought a Porsche 912E, I haven’t got the spare scratch to make it mine. Hopefully someone will tell me in the comments why it’s a terrible truck and I wouldn’t want it anyway. For the full listing, and some more photos, click through the jump.

The DFL Show: Episode 28 – Blunders Down Under W/ Joel Strickland

v8supercars-homebush-2016-shane-van-gisbergen-triple-eight-race-engineering-holden

This week we have a guest, or is he another host? Joel Strickland, Hooniverse contributor, joins us from Down Under. He’s got a unique perspective on motorsport, and he’s a huge Aussie Virgin Supercars fan, so we have a lot in common. Joel is on board with Brad, Pat, and Eric to talk about all kinds of motorsport. Speaking of Supercars, the finale was last weekend. We also discuss some 25 Hours of Thunderhill, the Asian Le Mans Series from Fuji, and a bit of LeMons Arse Freeze.

We talk about Nico Rosberg’s retirement, the new Caddy DPi, the BMW Art Car thing, new Porsche hires (again), and some IMSA and PWC news. There’s a little NASCAR and IndyCar news, as well as a new course for the SCCA Runoffs, a new Hyundai WRC car, and WTCC is a joke. We talked about Australian motorsport for about 20 minutes, but Joel’s audio cut out, so we had to cut that bit. I’m gutted, but it was still great. We handed out some awards and then bounced. It was a good time. Hopefully Joel will come back some time soon!

Not much to report on racing this week, just the usual. There was an excellent race in the Supercar series, Thunderhill held their annual 25-hour endurance race, Asian Le Mans series was in Japan, Ferrari tried (and failed) to make some kind of record happen, Porsche announced three new racing drivers hired, and OH YEAH, THE FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPION RETIRED! THAT’S NEWS!

Read along to see what good stuff happened this weekend. Summer is winding down a bit, and the racing is running to the end of the championships, so we’ll do our best to help keep your finger on the pulse. Just be aware of the fact that this post is filled with spoilers. Giant carbon-fiber, multi-element, DRS-equipped, Gurney-flapped, Spoilers! Oh, and in case you missed it, I am also hosting a new motorsport podcast these days…

The Cammed & Tubbed Podcast: Episode 150! – Fifteen Miles Per Hour

ct-lead

Cam and I have been doing this dumb podcast for just under three years, which makes me sit back and evaluate what I’m doing with my life on a regular basis… Anyway, existential crisis aside, we have enjoyed producing these episodes for our listeners, and we’re happy to see when new people join the fold. Tell your friends, have your friends tell their friends, whatever, it’s not a pyramid scheme, it’s a multilevel marketing experience. Jason joined us some eighty-ish episodes ago, and we’re happy to have him talk with us every week, too!

This week, our 150th episode actually fell on a Question Tuesday episode, which is kind of fitting isn’t it? We owe our successes with this show to our listeners, so it’s only fair that they contribute to the show as well. Here are some of your questions, and our uneducated and often inadvisable answers to them.

The Cammed and Tubbed Podcast – Fifteen Miles Per Hour

While I usually promo the Friday episode first in these posts, obviously I felt it more appropriate to celebrate the anniversary instead. Today’s brand new C&T features a guest, one of my DFL Show co-hosts was on C&T with us this week, Mr. Patrick Hoffstetter. Lately we’ve been doing show notes prior to the episode, but with as hectic as things have been this week, I didn’t get around to it. It shows. We get a little wild with our topics for a while, not really following any path toward cars. It’s an old school C&T Rants & Raves episode, and Pat’s just along for the ride. In any case, I hope you like the episode, as well as the show. We would appreciate it if you would give us some feedback on our facebook page in either case. Thanks for listening!

The DFL Show: Episode 27 – The Greatest Worst

phpthumb_generated_thumbnailjpg

We have ALL THE HOSTS this week for a host-filled show. We’ve got Duncan, we’ve got Patrick, we’ve got Stef, we’ve got Brad, and we’ve got Eric. It’s not often that we’re all on together, but this one is pretty fun and pretty special. You need to listen, because we have fun.

This week, there’s discussion of all the racing we missed last week for Thanksgiving, as well as all of the goings-on from this week. We have WEC, Formula 1, NASCAR, WRC, and WTCC finale coverage, as well as all of the crazy from Macau. There’s a new manager at McLaren Formula 1, no German GP, a new Porsche, a new Mazda, Some new drivers at Porsche, LMP2 car news, some Daytona entries, Indycar news, WTCC news, Aussie news, and GT1 cars are going to run at Goodwood. As terrible as 2016 was in the normal world, it was pretty great in the racing world, and looks to be getting better (aside from all of the VW group efforts quitting… Dammit Dieselgate!).

Then a quiz, and awards, and whats on next week, then we’re out. See ya next week!

Hooniverse Motorsport News For November 28th, 2016

porsche911rsr1

We’re really down to the end of the season now with Formula 1 having just ended and just a couple of between-season series still running, but there is enough to cover here, especially as we took last week off to celebrate Thanksgiving with our family. Besides, the silly season is in full swing, so we’re enjoying a lot of news. Lets get to it!

Read along to see what good stuff happened this weekend. Summer is winding down a bit, and the racing is running to the end of the championships, so we’ll do our best to help keep your finger on the pulse. The Cars Of Universal Studios Hollywood

15128850_10100503490539829_1523326700945938453_o

Last weekend my wife and I decided to take a trip to Los Angeles, I was there to go to a nerdy Porsche convention, but my wife was primarily there to go to Universal Studios, or more accurately one particular section of the park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The weather was perfect and we had a good few hours together in the park. While there, I of course had to snap photos of all of the various cars in the park. There were a bunch of them on the studio tour, which you’ll see later, but unfortunately we were stuck on the tram and couldn’t get up close and personal with those cars. I wish I could have. Anyway, read on for more.

The Cammed & Tubbed Podcast: Episode 149 – Coy Lovers

ct-149

On this week’s show, Jason, Cam, and Brad are all in their respective studios to record some quality programming. Take a dive into this episode as we discuss Brad’s recent road trip, his new job, and some Harry Potter. Brad also got some wrenching done on the 912E, so discussion there abounds as well. Cam got his E34 wagon back on the road, and both of our non-SoCal residents recently swapped to snow tires. We end the show with discussion of car-related Christmas gifts to avoid for the gift-giving season this year. Go check out Jason’s new M2 video, and Brad’s discussion of the 911 RSR’s aerodynamics.

The Cammed and Tubbed Podcast – Coy Lovers

Our Tuesday episode this week is another Question Tuesday where we answer real questions from real listeners like you. You can ask us questions on our facebook page, via Twitter, or on our instagram. We put out a call for questions every Monday morning, so keep an eye on that as well if you like. I really enjoyed this conversation, we had some open-ended talk at the front end of the show that made us all a bit more relaxed for the rest of it. Enjoy!

The One Year Anniversary Of Bowman And Roy’s Idiotic Adventure

Bradley Brownell November 18, 2016 Speed Reads

morgan_inline_12

It was a year ago today that friend-of-the-‘verse Zach Bowman wrote this tragically fantastic piece that involved him driving cross country with king-of-idiots and friend-of-the-‘verse Alex Roy in his Morgan 3-wheeler of all things. It only took a few sentences to be enamored with the work, as is often the case with Zach’s prose; It will often smash you over the head with its delicate beauty. This piece is transformative in its ability to describe in excruciating detail what it is like to be miserable for nearly two days on the road. A year ago today I made the comment on this post “It’s possible Zach Bowman is the best writer of our generation. It’s also possible Alex Roy is the equivalent of our village idiot. Well done to you both.” and I stand by that statement. If you have not yet read this, here are some excerpts of Bowman’s work to convince you to click on through and read the whole thing.

Zach Bowman, possibly the best writer of our generation:

“It’s dangerous, trusting a shitty box store jack with my life; maybe the Morgan will fall on my face and get this over with. He died as he lived, like a f**king idiot.”

Check the oil. Add a little. Tighten the center locks. Check air pressures. Check wheel bearings. That last one throws a warning. The passenger side tire is wearing quicker than its twin, and a good shake of the wheel shows slop. We agree to keep pushing and keep an eye on it. We’ll know if it gets worse. So will our next of kin.”

“Could we pull a few hours from the time? I think so, but I’ll never know. The next time I climb into a wooden box will be the day they put me in the goddamned ground.”

Yeah, you owe it to yourself to read this. Go do it.
