Weekend Edition: Hot August Nights – The Peppermill

Stop #2 was the Peppermill casino parking lot. This was one of the “officially sanctioned” stops, so there were a few hundred cars on display at this show. I didn’t bother going to the biggest show at the Grand Sierra, because it was a madhouse, and I didn’t go downtown, because that’s always a mess. These few that I went to were enough for me, though. If you’ve seen one parking lot full of hot rods, you’ve pretty much seen them all. The doors at the Peppermill are tinted red, so I thought I’d snap a photo through them. It’s weird.

Weekend Edition: Hot August Nights – Mopars At The A&W

This week in Reno is a massive vintage hot-rod show called “Hot August Nights” that involves nightly car shows at all of the major casinos and most of the local restaurants. Everywhere you look all week there has been vintage rods of all kinds scooting around, and Friday night I decided to finally venture out and snap some photos of them for you lovely folks. This is the first of many parts this weekend. The A&W is right around the corner from work, so that was my first stop. They were having a Mopars only night, but there were a few interlopers. I hope you enjoy.

The Cammed & Tubbed Podcast: Episode 122 – Homecoming

JASON IS BACK! It’s Cam, Brad, and Jason back for episode 122. Your #FreeJason campaign finally worked! Honestly, we’re really glad he’s returned, as he’s our buddy and we missed him.

This week we talk about Cam’s recent boating trip, and the fact that he just bought a BMW wagon. Next thing you know he’s going to start wearing an ascot and call people “Sport”. Brad recently went on a road trip to the Bay Area (the BAE area) of California to see a concert. Jason is back so we can finally talk about #ConfiguratorFun again, and most of us have forgotten about our DB11 picks, so we decided to move on and pick new MINI products.

Brad and Jason are planning their trips to the Monterey Motorsport Reunion. Brad has an Acura Dinner and a Porsche Dinner and tickets to Gooding and Bonhams auctions, as well as the motorsport reunion and Pebble Beach. Jason has SO MANY manufacturer soirées to attend. Our buddy Manuel will be there as well, and the guys from the Driving While Awesome show (If you don’t listen to their podcast, you should. Two episodes a week is difficult to keep up with, but they talk interesting words and know a lot about stuff and things.)

The DFL Show: Episode 4 – The Best Words W/ Duncan Ende

Here on The DFL Show, we strive to have the best words. In this episode, unfortunately Stef could not be with us, but we were joined for the first time by new co-host Duncan Ende. Duncan is a great guy, and a full fledged racer with actual experience to back up his opinions. We’re very happy to have him aboard, and he’s welcome back whenever his schedule permits.

We start the show by asking Duncan about his career a bit (and ripping on the Nismo GTR LM at the same time), and move into some insider info on what it takes to be a driver and what they go through. We move into some light race recaps from NASCAR and Spa 24 and F1, and IndyCar and PWC and GRC and WRC. Then comes a bit of news: Brad tried Beard Papa’s, Eric tells us about Team Demolition Derby, IndyCar and PWC have started announcing their calendars.

Intercontinental GT3 Challenge is a thing that is supposedly happening. We speculate on who will care and why. Eric has a new quiz “Rally Finland Stage Name, Hockey Player Last Name, or Scandanavian Food”. Listener Questions, in which a racing driver punches Duncan in the dick and then Brad sings him a Karaoke rendition of Mr. Roboto. And finally we have our awards for the week, and we tell you what we’ll be watching this coming weekend.

Hooniverse Motorsport News For August 1, 2016

Bradley Brownell August 1, 2016 Motorsports

There was so much to look at this week, that most racing fans had their heads spinning and their high-speed internet working overtime. There was an endurance race in Belgium, F1 in Germany, IndyCar and PWC were pounding out laps at the coolest place in Ohio, GRC went to the nation’s capital for some dirty fun, WRC went to Finland for some dirty fun, and NASCAR got wet in Pennsylvania.

Read along to see what good stuff happened this weekend. We’ve got it all. Summer is in full swing, and the racing will only continue to get hotter from here, so we’ll do our best to help keep your finger on the pulse. Project Car SOTU 2016: Weekend Edition – Cam’s Cars

[As a member of the Cammed and Tubbed Podcast *Every Friday Morning, available exclusively on the Hooniverse Network Of Podcasts*, Cam sent me this blurb to include in the project car SOTU today. Hopefully you enjoy hearing about his quartet of lovely project cars. If you listen to the podcast, you’re likely already familiar with them! He’s participated before, so if you need a refresher, catch up here. In the following post, Cam shows off the cars and bike that he’s always bragging about on the podcast, including his new BMW 530i Touring, his new Harley Davidson sportster, and a few other projects kicking around his house. – BB]

The Cammed & Tubbed Podcast: Episode 121 – Hangin’ Out W/ Pat Hoffstetter

C&T 121_edited-1

Cam and Brad are missing Jason. Like a lot. He’s been busy with work stuff all month, and we need our buddy back. In any case, Pat Hoffstetter (now of the world famous “The DFL Show” podcast) shows up to try to fill the hole that Jason has left in our hearts. From the very outset, we start talking about racing, because that’s what Pat and I know, and Cam says he watched the IMSA mess of a race this week. Cam invents a game to test humidity, ostensibly. Cam got way too excited about seeing a Ford Festiva on the street. And we spend a bit of time talking about a listener who has questions regarding tires and brakes for his new car.

We had to keep this one short because Pat and I had to bounce over to The DFL Show to record this week.

The DFL Show: Episode 3 – Slide Job

First of all, I want to apologize for the poor editing quality in episode 2. Episode 3 is better, I promise. This is partially why the first 7 episodes of Cammed & Tubbed were never released (well, 6 of the 7). We’re finding our groove, and promise better episodes going forward.

Stef, Brad, Eric, and Patrick are all around the microphones for episode 3. We talk Acura NSX GT3, Keselowski’s crash at WGI, Truck racing at Eldora (which is awesome!), F1, IMSA, Brickyard, WEC at the N-ring, and more race-recappy stuff. We had our second quiz, this time about teams and being DFL at Le Mans. We answer a really interesting listener question concerning safety (thanks Ross!). And we end the show with our traditional awards ceremony.

Stick around after the show for the audio from Acura’s press conference. It’s somewhat interesting, and worth a listen if you’re mad for GT3s like we are.

Thanks for listening to the show, as always, we appreciate any listener support we can get!

Project Car SOTU: All My Other Stuff

Outside of Project Toyolo, everything else has been mostly inconsequential. Two of my cars are project car series for other outlets, so I won’t go into super detail on what I’ve been doing to them here, but some links will be provided where applicable. I recently had a bunch of work done to the commuter mobile Mazda3, I’ve done a bunch to my Audi S6 since the last installment, and Project Boxster Clubsport is rocking and rolling. Unfortunately Project Hoonda, my Supra, and my 68 Mustang have all been neglected a bit too long. I hope to rectify that soon.

Project Car SOTU: Project ToYOLO

I was worried that I wouldn’t really have anything new and exciting for this season’s Project Car SOTU. Then this happened. I dragged home a truck. Why?

Last weekend I was out for a Sunday morning walk with my wife, and I saw this poor little thing sitting on the side of the road. The truck had a tow notice on the windshield (it’s still there in this photo), the fender and hood were removed, the 20R’s cylinder head was missing, and the passenger side window was shattered. As soon as I saw it, I was in love. My wife and I have been looking for a beater truck to make Home Depot runs, and to grab big junk from Craigslist that won’t fit in our hatchback. This has the potential to be the vehicle we need, and I told her that I wanted it. She said that she loved it almost as much as I did. So when we returned home, I wrote a note and grabbed some tape and drove back to the truck to let them know “If you’re interested in selling, I’m interested in buying, here’s my number”. The guy called within 20 minutes, and I had a truck. Here’s the preliminary details.
