This week there wasn’t as much racing as we’ve seen perhaps on more tightly packed weekends, as a lot of racing series have concluded their seasons. However, the racing that did go on was incredible, and recognition for that is well deserved. The PWC finale, the Formula E season opener, and the Bathurst 1000 in particular were highlights for me.

Read along to see what good stuff happened this weekend. Summer is winding down a bit, and the racing is running to the end of the championships, so we’ll do our best to help keep your finger on the pulse. Just be aware of the fact that this post is filled with spoilers. Giant carbon-fiber, multi-element, DRS-equipped, Gurney-flapped, Spoilers! Oh, and in case you missed it, I am also hosting a new motorsport podcast these days…

As you know by now, our Tuesday shows are chock full of listener questions and a few rants from the trio. Cam, Brad, and Jason are all ready to go answering your best questions. Brock Yates passed away yesterday after 12 years of suffering with Alzheimers, he was 82 years old, he leaves behind a family full of love, and an everlasting legacy in the automotive community. For years I’ve been tracking down his old articles and reading his books. He was, and remains, a huge influence on me. As tribute, maybe post your favorite anecdotes in the comments below? In any case, remember him, and remember his family.

The DFL Show: Episode 19 – Klingmann’d It

klingmannd

This week it’s Brad, Pat, Stef, and Duncan sitting around discussing the week’s news. When you want to hear the news and recaps of what happened the previous weekend, call on the un-pros to get it done. There was IMSA racing in Atlanta (and beer in Texarkana?) Formula 1, BTCC, WRC, Blancpain, and more. In the news, Alex Rossi has a seat, Nine ‘Strayans were arrested, Ricky Taylor has a WEC seat, Rahal Letterman are shaking out their driver lineup, and Krohn is selling an unraceable car. Eric gives some statements regarding Petit, and we read them out to pretend he’s actually there.

We answer some listener questions, Eric’s gone, so no quiz, we give our awards, and we talk about what’s coming up next weekend. That’s a show!

Oh the racing this weekend was just glorious, wasn’t it, folks? We had some endurance sports cars at Road Atlanta, Formula 1 in Asia, NASCAR, World Rally, GT Masters, Blancpain Sprint, and BTCC this weekend. I really focused my weekend around the endurance racing, but the other stuff was cool too.

The Cammed & Tubbed Podcast: Episode 132 – Porsche-Heavy

ct-132

Two episodes this week with Jason, Brad, and Cam. As last week, we had another Q&A episode on Tuesday, and then our regular episode for today. We have great listeners and they come up with some of the best questions, so we’re happy to keep answering them. If you have more, please post them in the comments below and we’ll get to them for next week.

In Episode 131 we answer all the questions that your silly little hearts desire. We had a lot of fun answering some of these, as they get a little out there in the wild department. Good times had by all. Check it out.

The Cammed and Tubbed Podcast – Taco Bell Date Night

In Episode 132 we have the usual three-dees, plus some random trivia facts. Get down to business on Brad’s two Porsche project cars (The 912E runs with minor fiddling, and the Boxster is finally out of the shop for the first time in a month. Look for more updates on the Boxster on FlatSixes.com in the coming months.) Jason talks about how he wants a 240Z now. We discuss how Brad got CALLED OUT by the Driving While Awesome guys (after calling them out himself). Plus Forza Horizon 3 stuff, and Brad responds to Jeff re: why the MX-5 RF isn’t his cup of roadster tea.

Craigslist: 1974 VW Bug Camper “Lil Bugger”

My wife and I have been talking about getting a small camper or tow-behind vehicle for some future camping adventures. We’ve been talking about teardrops and popups and old full-size van-based travel machine. We’ve discussed ponying up and getting a nice Sprinter-based RV. The best idea, however, is this piece. It’s small, those seats look comfortable as all get out, and there’s enough room to haul our dogs and sleep reasonably comfortably. For more, hit the jump.

The Electric GT World Series is going to run Tesla GT cars.

Quick Vid: My 912E Runs!

Bradley Brownell September 27, 2016 Quick Pics

A week or so ago, I mentioned that I’d picked up a 912E project car. Well, this weekend I had some time to really dig into it and see what was wrong. I knew that it would crank, but wouldn’t fire, so the issue is either fuel or spark. The easiest thing to do is check spark plugs, so I pulled them out and cranked, and they all fired. Cool. Next up is fuel. Turn the ignition on, and there’s no sound of a pump priming.

Okay, so it’s the fuel pump. I drained the tank and checked inside for debris, looks clean as a whistle. Removed the pump and bench tested it, it kicks right on and flows just fine. Pump back in, fuel back in, jump the fuel pump on with a spare battery and kick on the car. It stumbles at first, but settles into a nice idle. Betcha dollars to donuts it’s a DME relay.

So yeah, I have a Porsche and it makes Porsche noises (well, Volkswagen noises). As a friend recently said, “Nearly impossible to kill a stock Type IV. Also, to enjoy it.” Truer words have never been spoken.

This was another relatively slow weekend in the motorsport world. Last weekend was loaded with stuff to watch, but this weekend was a little lacking. There was Super Formula at Sugo, a bit of NASCAR, some European Le Mans at Spa, MotoGP at Aragon, DTM at Budapest, WTCC, VLN, SCCA Runoffs, Trans Am, and Nissan Micra Cup. Better than nothing, but it’s easy to see that the season is winding down to a close for 2016.

Read along to see what good stuff happened this weekend.
