Breaking down the opening scene of John Wick 2

Jeff Glucker July 10, 2017 Hoonivercinema 5 Comments

If you haven’t seen the second installment in the John Wick franchise, you’re missing out. I don’t believe it’s quite as good as the first one but it’s still an excellent watch. The opening scene jumps directly into the action and sees Wick attempting to rescue his beloved Mustang. He gets it… but he also kills it along the way.

Darrin Prescott is the Stunt Coordinator and 2nd Unit Director for the film. Vanity Fair brought him in to talk about that opening scene, and he does a great job of breaking it all down while providing excellent insight as well.

The scene is great to watch, but it’s even more interesting to learn about what it takes for something like this to come together.

…aaand taking away a lot of movie magic. Still, probably worth watching.
All the British newspaper critics are gaga over the ‘Baby Driver’, high marks everywhere. No idea if this ever arrives to local theaters though.

That was actually pretty fun to watch. What I’m taking away is that if you bother to look really close, you can manage to see a fair bit of the props and tricks.

But the taxi that was pre-damaged – “the shot was fast enough that nobody really notices”. Nope. Every car guy will notice instantly.

Can’t say i remember noticing while watching the movie… Overall a decent action movie.

What happened to Last Call anyway?

Robert quit, and with him went Hooniverse Asks and Last Call. A big blow.
