False Neutral #35: Investment Bikes

fn-podcast-35

As promised, we took reader suggestions and talk about which bikes we believe will — or in some cases, won’t — appreciate in value over the next five to ten years. Our suggestions may surprise you; we surprised each other with a couple of them. We also discuss whether there are respectable 50cc options on which a man approaching middle age could commute, and have the world’s shortest discussion of snowmobiles. Be sure to click past the jump — over 40 motorcycle pictures are waiting for you!

Note: Eric’s audio feed has an odd hiss at times early in the podcast, but it goes away before too long, so don’t let it deter you.

Very early this morning, I awoke to see my wallet glowing white hot. I thought I was dreaming and rolled over. Turns out that coincided with the posting of this week’s podcast and the identification of where to buy a NC35. Now I’m doomed.

In the ’90s, when Seca Turbos were more common I would always see them with one dirty exhaust pipe and one clean one, always the right side was dirty. I wondered if they had a propensity to burn oil on one side? Eventually my pal got a hold of one and we learned the left side pipe was just a waste gate for the turbo.
Their Battlestar Galactica exhaust pipes were very distinctive, and usually the only part of the bike you saw!

I know someone with a pair of janky rd400’s who might give em to me cheap, not sure if i could even combine them into one good one without substantial investment though. I had a blast doing a basic easy resto of a well stored 86 VFR, not well versed in two strokes at all though so i’m not sure if it is worth the trouble…
