1971 4×4 Eldorado Convertible May be the Zenith of Americanness

Forget the Escalade. Forget luxury crossovers trying to also be “coupes”. Forget (if you can) the Murano CrossCabrio. This is the vehicle that combines the presence of a 4×4 with the impractical jauntiness of a drop-top two door.

We need to give credit to the builder for not just dropping the body on a Blazer frame, but actually adapting the Cadillac motor and frame to accommodate a 4×4 drivetrain and suspension. Additional points awarded for no American flag hood decal or dumbass bumper stickers. Most importantly, no longhorns on the hood. That said, the conspicuously installed aftermarket stereo system detracts from the gravitas of the whole setup.

Overall, this seems to be the perfect vehicle for a construction boss to roll up to a job site in. He’s not here to do any real dirty work, but a few measly obstacles aren’t going to hold him back.

That is outstanding, but I feel like it could do better with some steel rims with wire-wheel-covers and some white wall tires.

  • ConstantReader

I looked at this and thought “It’s a ’71…I oughta know cuz I had one.”

    • Deeeerrrrrrp.

      Will fix.

    • dukeisduke

The vents on the trunk are a dead giveaway.

  • GTXcellent

“As dependable as any mid Eighties 4×4 truck.”
ummmmmmmm, hmmmmmmm….not really sure that’s a selling point Jonathan.

This thing is bad-assed though. I’d really like to see a pic of the top down.

Is it to early for HCOTY nominations?

    • njhoon

Never. Well as long as it is on the calendar year.

  • dukeisduke

Hey, if Chevy can pull off square wheel openings with the Silverado, why not Cadillac? The only change I would make is to move the radio out of the glovebox and into the dash.

  • CruisinTime

    Nice Car you got there………….

  • A guy here in Columbus had a mid 70’s Corvette mounted on a shortened Ford Expedition chassis, chosen for its IRS. This is an image I snagged of it about 7 years ago. It looked ridiculously fantastic.

Sadly, I came across pics of it a while ago sitting in disrepair.

You’ll have to go out and rescue it!

      • I wish I knew where it was, but I don’t. I can’t even find any reference to it online anymore.

    “No Longhorns on the hood”

Actually,…I’d have to do that if I owned this, I mean if your going to go this far, why stop at that?

  • “Gravitas?”

Yeah, it actually does look pretty heavy to me.

    • Vairship

This is the new BMW X8M, right?
      X because X-drive (faux off-road),
8 because it’s the coupe version of the 7-series (and not related to the Z8 of course, just to make it more confusing)
And M because it’s M-style, instead of a real BMW Motorsport. And because it sells better with that extra letter.

      • Can’t be, it’s too tasteful to be that.

  • MarkT

I love this. I need this.
