Make this awesome Jeep bed!

Kamil Kaluski August 27, 2014 All Things Hoon 21 Comments

Kid’s car beds have been around for a while and they vary from crap to awesome. This one seems to be push the needle toward the awesome side. Unfortunately you cannot buy it, but you can buy the instructions on how to make it!

Make a child’s off-road dreams come true with these Jeep bed plans. Includes 62 pages of detailed step-by-step instructions. Photos are of previously completed Jeep beds and a sample page from the instructions.

Designed for a twin sized mattress, this easy to build bed requires around $250 in material to make.

Sample of the directions is after the jump. My two year old son loves Jeeps, “peeps” as he calls them, and I’d love to have this for him. Unfortunately, I lack the skill to make it, but if someone wants to volunteer their mad wood working services to me, please, I’ll take on in military green.

How about this awesome Austin Mini bed?

The Playboy bunny-logo sheets are a weird choice.

Presumably the childhood bed of James Hunt

Can I get that in king sized?

Sixty two pages of instructions? We don't need no stinking instructions! Get BEER and FETCH MY HAMMER!

  • Looks like it might be easier to build an actual CJ.

If I built it it'd probably burn down or somehow manage to go rusty and leak oil everywhere.

Now that it has been posted here who wants to be how long it takes for Fiat to file suit against the company for copyright infringement.

I'm not seeing that it needs serious wood working skills and wouldn't be a bad place to learn them and a good excuse to buy some tools.

  • My brother, thejeepjunkie, actually proposed building one just like this for theKid when theKid was a mere toddler. Unfortunately, his significant other, thesungoddess, vetoed it in favor of a boring bunkbed with a desk underneath. I know he is kicking his own butt for not insisting on this build. But as thejeepjunkie always tells me when I question his lack of assertiveness in his marriage, "longrooffan, I have been married for 29 years, how about you?" I then promptly shut up and wish him better experiences in the next 29.

  • Did you steal this off my "manly" baby registry? Because it's there! I plan on building it (regardless of whether lilengineerd™ is a boy or girl). I even have the stereo out of the Cherokee I can incorporate into it so lilengineerd™ can have some tunes.

I'd accessorize with a light bar with actual, working night lights, and a roof rack for toy/stuffed animal storage.

    • How does Mrs. engineerd™ feel about this?

      Also, make two!!

      • If lilengineerd™ is a boy, I don't think she'll have any problem with it. I told her if lilengineerd™ turns out to be a girl I'll just paint it pink!

        • Solid plan.
          Make two, please.

Honestly, I see about 3 difficult cuts (the mitered ends on the fenders). Go at it, and fill the miss-matched angles with silicone (or Bondo, just like a real jeep) before you paint.

  • C³-Cool Cadillac Cat

I don't lay on my Jeep, rather, I lay under it.

Still doing suspension bushes on the 5.9L ZJ.
