… Is this old cop car.

It’s a 1966 Ford Fairlane 500, and it served as an Illinois State Police vehicle.

It looks fantastic, and serves as a nice break from all the new cars in the room.

This reminds me, I was watching an old Dragnet episode recently, and in the early years, they drove a '66 Fairlane. I noticed that the car had a wood (or fake wood?) steering wheel, made obvious by the rivets in the rim. I thought, "Where's the string back gloves?" Here's an example:

Wow! Was that wheel a factory option? I have a '66 Fairlane that I bought back in 1989. It has a real wood steering wheel. I always assumed it was an aftermarket piece. I kept it for two reasons. First I can't find or afford an NOS steering wheel, and second, it is the most comfortable steering wheel I have even encountered.

Did it have a cigarette lighter?

  • I recently saw an article about a 49 Ford that was a former Washington State Patrol car that was undergoing restoration… http://www.dailyrecordnews.com/members/vintage-wa

They used a '67 Fairlane actually but a few stock footage shots do show a '66.
