Hooniversal Secret Ninja-Claus: So, What Did My Fellow Hoons Score?

LongRoofian January 10, 2013 All Things Hoon 45 Comments

hoonimas 004

So here it is a couple weeks after Hoonimas has passed and I kinda figured it was time to see what those of we Hoons who chose to participate in this year’s gift exchange received. And to expose those slackers who have not sent their treasures off to their benefactors.

This olelongrooffan was extremely honored by my presents. A speedo from what appears to be a ’57 Chevy, two Hot Wheels funny cars, a Datsun 510 and Cougar Eliminator (I think my age serves that purpose quite well) Hot Wheels, a laser pointer, a ton of chocolate, a classic Chevette badge and, finally, coolest of all, a key chain fob dating from a 1926 Buick. Yeah. Pretty Damn Cool Stuff to this olelongrooffan. Thanks again man.

What about you? What’d you get? And those of you who chose not to participate, see what cool shit you are missing?

I really need to stop using my cell phone for pictures. Anyway my Secret Santa gave me a bag from England's underground. Two custom hand made pen. English stamps from the 2012 Olympics and a bag of homemade toffee. The bag is now in the hands of my Mother who is a bit of a Brit fanatic. The little suspension pen lives on my desk while the larger one in the case is now my primary one to use. The gentlemen who did this knows how to craft pens. Who knew?

I feel like I didn't send enough out in my set but they seem pretty happy with one part of it.

  • Since I didn't get anything from my benefactor, I will post what I sent:

1 open wheel race car (unknown brand Hotwheels-like)
    1 Dodge Charger R/T Hotwheels
    1 promotional flashlight/lamp
1 fullsize Twix bar (man, I hope it makes it there in proper 2 pieces!)
1 December issue of Car and Driver (Focus ST and GTI comparo! I flagged it for your convenience)

I also included a nice letter. Hope you enjoyed your gift, Matt.

    • NothingHappens

      Your tense is allllll wrong.

It isn't that you haven't gotten anything it's that your benefactor is lazy-ass good for nothing who has to 1) Find the stuff he knows he has packed in box(es) somewhere; 2) Wrap it; 3) Ship it to the Great State of Texa$ (yes, with a dollar sign),

Hoonimas is a season (like 5 months long) and I only got mine last week and I refuse to open it until I get your shit together. Promise.

Plus, February is shitty month, this'll brighten it up!

      • Until then, NothingHappens. Until then.

        • "Until then, nothing happens."

          Fixed it for you.

        • NothingHappens

Huzzah! Things are in a box! On Monday it will be dispatched to what appears to be the least-weird part of Austin, via Canada Post's best pigeons (or at least those that were not eaten by the Canada Post Mail Sled Huskys).

          • <img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-CPyGRGD-hPY/UQbq5FMtlvI/AAAAAAAAMpQ/NxMbpi6P60Q/s640/13+-+1">

BOOM. I like how you have to declare whats in the box, yet postage was more than the entire contents of the box.

            Thanks so much!

            • NothingHappens

Sweet! I was worried that Nina in Corporate Accounts Payable, just a moment, had swiped the goodies.

              • Oh, I was worried that Derek in receiving had done the same.

It was funny that your letter didn't include a mention of those tote bags. I figured that someone in the Canadian post office opened the box up and stuck them in there because they heard that Austin is going "bagless" this year, and figured I would need some for groceries and Breakfast Scotch.

                • NothingHappens

Those were lying about it and got stuffed in at the last minute. I have a crap ton of them.

I thought Breffass Scotch was defacto ensconced in a stained paper bag?

                  • Everything is bigger in Texas, so I use a beat up Toyota bag for my Breffass Scotch.

    • m4ff3w

      It was AWESOME!

I posted on FB – that flashlight is the proverbial "bomb" I nearly pooped myself when I found out it had a magnetic base. I think I've used it 3 or 4 times a week since it arrived. My kids stole the cars and tried stealing the twix – and it did arrive as shipped.

      Thanks so much.

      • Fantastic! I had no idea that flashlight had a magnetic base. That is too cool!

Cheers Matt! I am really glad you liked the stuff!

  • The Professor

I got a very cool gift for Hoonimas this year. My Secret Ninja Santa sent me a photo of an SR-71B in flight, silhouetted by the sunset, and signed by A-12 and SR-71 test pilot Ken Collins. Extremely cool. It's out getting framed at this very moment, then comes the hard part: finding unoccupied wall space on which to display it.

  • <img src="http://www.tanshanomi.com/temp/IMG_0832-reduced.jpg">

I was reading the Jan. '97 Motor Trend just last night. Surprisingly cool. I had not quite comprehended just how much things have changed in the past 17 years.

And I've already taken the 2002 out of its card. I don't believe that toy cars should remain in the package. Ever.

    • e46christopher

"I don't believe that toy cars should remain in the package. Ever."

      • That may take me a while. I got a startlingly large number of new Hot Wheels from… someone… who did not include a user name.

        • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

When you get a box of hot wheels that fell off of the back of the truck and send it, you might go ninja and not include a username either when you send it. Was the return address "Jake" 1000 W Addison or something along those lines too? I'm hoping my recipient got (gets) it (soon). I was worried that the destination address would get marred, so I wrote in on multiple places on the box. Then the clerk said I might get it returned because there were more than two address on the package. But there were two, just that recipient was included multiple times (per side even). I decided to not rely on the law of averages and so I crossed all but two off and he said that was now all correct to US standards of the post.

          • Nope. I guess someone else also has access to a limitless supply of Hot Wheels.

Thank you, Mystery Person whom I know only by, er, name and mailing address….

    • dukeisduke

The Malibu was MT's COTY for '97? Hilarious. I can't the number of them I see with the rear door glass taped up, since the window motors are a notorious weak point.

      • rtfact32

I think that's the main reason I sent that MT – even fifteen years ago they were SO out of touch with reality, it's not even funny. Not sure if you're into police cars, but there are some really awesome photographs in that book. The text…eh…not so much.

        • Very cool book! I never knew that Jeep Cherokees looked so right in police livery.

    • rtfact32

I included the MT becuase it shows even 16 years ago how out of touch with reality they were. At least pick the Olds Cutlass over the Malibu.

Not sure if you like police cars, but there are some pretty awesome pictures in that book. Not so much for the text though…

  • I was at a conference the week HSNC was announced, so I totally missed out on it. I'm sure you guys will be much easier than my family to shop for. Next year.

  • JayP2112

I had my HSNC send to my son. A couple of brochures from the 90's, a few beer coasters (totally appropriate for an 11 yr old btw), undetermined aircraft parts, a few spark plugs I hope didn't come out of a plane, patches, a coin that doubles as a beer opener, a beer opener, aircraft ID cards, a kickass Ferrari hat, a bag of MicroMachines and an 8 track player. And a letter from HSNC kinda explaining the beer coaster and openers but not where the plane parts were from.

I spent last week at my dad's house ferreting some old crap, I mean presents to send next year.

  • Joe_Btfsplk

The speedo is a late 60's early 70's FoMoCo item, I believe.

    • Joe: The Bowtie just under the "60" suggests something a bit different.

    • The Professor

Good lord! What a cute child, are you sure he's yours?

      • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

I used to be a cute kid too, poor lil' guy.

  • Maymar

Mine hasn't arrived yet, but I also only sent my package off Monday. Seems fair.

    • coupeZ600

Oh, it got here, and was fantastic! I'll post a pic from my phone over at FB and then back here tomorrow.

      • Maymar

Glad you like it! Also glad it didn't take too long to arrive!

  • Stef

Gosh, All I got was an Obama caganer…

    • Stef

well, my first attempt to include a picture was a failure. just google it for goodness sake…

      • Van_Sarockin

I was going to do a courtesy embed…. but I just can't. I can't take responsibility for what this might do to the gentle souls hereabouts.

  • ninjacoco

My package arrived and the happy victim posted pics on FB. :o)

I'm still waiting on mine, though. Eh. It'll show when it shows.

Sidenote: I did a Secret Santa on a message board I post on and it was last seen leaving Austin…on December 6th. "How the USPS Stole Christmas," indeed. If there are postal workers enjoying my box of #winning instead of my recipient…heads will roll!

  • NothingHappens

Many thanks to Ron (and his daughters) in New Port Richey FL:

    1) White sand from the beach! (with sea shells, and the bag ripped so there was sand ALL over the package, heh)
    2) HW BMW 2002
    3) HW Falcon XB Coupe
    4) 'Nitrous' brand vacuum gauge (brand-name had electrical tape over it…trying to class up the Miata?)
    5) 'Nitrous' brand voltmeter (ibid)
    6) Sundry stickers to indicate Ron's a Miata driver
    7) Cool-ass flash light
    8) Mazda SkyActiv water bottle (guaranteed to be free of lead!)
