So this olelongrooffan is still working out the most efficient route from my new place, The Garage, to the place where I schlep trailers. This morning I chose an alternate route and stumbled upon this Mark IV.

markIV 002

I athinkin this is a mid 70’s, possibly a ’75 or ’76. And yes, it has been recoated with this bright ass P**** Magnet Yellow that I could see from nearly a mile away.

And although the badge on the door of it did not show up in any of the images of it, this car could be owned by the MadHungarian, who owns a nearly match ing Town Cow.

What was on that badge? The owners initials: F*P.

It's a 1973 Mark IV. One can tell from the thin rear bumpers. Pity about the colour…

    • salguod

I was just coming to point that out. The bumpers on an early 70's car can tell you the year. '73 was the first year for the 5 MPH bumpers, but they only were required up front. Both ends got 'em in '74. Thin at both ends? '72 or older. Two big'ns? '74 or later. One of each means '73.

  • It's very possible that this is the original color. I wouldn't call this pussy magnet yellow at all.

  • calculatedrisk

A high school buddy had a '73 coupe (no porthole windows). It had a 460, original 8 track and about 50 cows worth of leather on the inside. As it got about 7 mpg, we made sure to cram 8 plus people in it wherever we went.

Isn't that a colour associated with the healthy result of your kidney's work, and as such somehow associated with p****, but by no means in an interesting way?

(The stupidest points are made in the longest sentences.)

    • ptschett

Now that you mention it, it's not far from calf scour yellow…

  • Perhaps it's the camera, the quality of which has been discussed many times, but this doesn't look like PMY at all. In fact, it looks like the same shade as my Alfa. From firsthand experience, I can tell you that the Alfa is definitely not PMY unless that shade does not work as advertised.

  • MVEilenstein

I don't care what you call the color, that's an awesome car.

  • dukeisduke

According to paintref.com, it's simply called "Yellow", code 6D.

  • Ah, that's American Racing Margarine.

Why Margarine? One look at it and broads spread.

    • Alcology

I would've gone American Racing Butter, when things heat up, broads run.

  • vetteman61

In the last few years I've really grown to have an appreciation for cars of this era. I guess as I've gotten older the idea of cruising around in the plushest of the plush has its appeal.

    • JayP2112

I think it's just about getting older, wanting something plush and not settling for a FWD Buick.

  • Van_Sarockin

That is not going to put a smile on Frank Cannon's puss.

  • Mr. Smee

I despise these, yet I badly want a MkIII.

  • Felis_Concolor

PMY? If anything, that particularly light hue would be more accurately described as WHY.

  • Rollwithit

    More like a piss magnet

  • C³-Cool Cadillac Cat

A good friend of mine has one identical to this, though with a white vinyl roof. Has been in the family since new.

Currently in storage, but I remember that car from my early-mid-80's high school days. Never more than a couple of gallons of gasoline in the tank, and at 8 MPG, maybe, we never went far in it.

That yellow is rather pale when compared to PMY. PMY is this:

    <img src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_FOR5R1ET2Gk/R9VlfsgqQiI/AAAAAAAAAYg/a5VSOVIh864/S600/2yellow-leaning.jpg>

And yeah, that's a Wingabago, but they handle incredibly well for the size/mass. I was comfy dragging parts doing common things like making right turns after stopping at a light after only about a week.

  • don fehlio

My first car was this color and I can confirm that it was in no way a p-mag.

You're absolutely correct, it is a 1973. This Mark IV is an exact duplicate of the one that I bought in 1985 when I was 18. It was completely original, and was my first car. The Magnet Yellow on this car is accurate. The car came with some great features for the time…460 CID engine backed up by the ever bullet proof C-6 trans, Ford 9" rear, hideaway headlights, cruise control, tilt steering, climate control, auto dimming high beams, black power leather seats, power locks and windows, tinted glass all around, flip down center console/arm rest, 6 speaker AM/FM 8 track stereo with the retractable antenna, etc., etc. I'd love to have my 73 Mark back again! But, if I knew then what I know now…ya know?
