HCOTY 2012: Presenting the winner…

HCOTY 2012 lead

Our 2012 HCOTY field of nominees was vast and varied, and I’m happy to report that every nominee received at least a few votes. A few vehicles, however, rose up to become the clear favorites, but two of those took off from the rest of the group. It was a back and forth battle for the top spot between the Unimog and the EV Midget.

Who wound up the victor? Click past the break to see for yourself…

It’s Scott’s EV Midget!

HCOTY 2012 winner ev midget

The Unimog was winning earlier in the week, but a flurry of last minute votes helped push the EV Midget ahead and it stayed there.

Head here to read why Tim chose this as his nomination, and sound off with congratulations in the comments. Also, sound off with congratulations to all the other nominees… it was a great crop of entries this year.

Congratulations Scott, your trophy is on back order – we’ll send it when we send it.

    Called it. (damn that's obnoxious!)

Congratulations Scott. What a wonderful project, and your win was hard fought and well deserved, among many worthy contenders.

I really appreciated the breadth of automobility that was represents and the variety of the owners and stories behind each of the vehicles. Put them all together and it's mind boggling. Backslaps all around, and especially to our benevolent Overhoons for creating, organizing and policing this shambles!

Just kidding, Scott. Well done! Also, congrats to Tim for nomination with excellent reasoning.

Congrats, Scott! This was the obvious winner, for sure. I love it.

Congrats Scott! Great car with a great story!

Charles Barkley and Kurt Cobain, oddly, are very happy for you. Dave Grohl just woke up and hasn't quite figured out where he is or what he's looking at yet. Krist Novoselic is wondering why the chicken crossed the road.

The Fire Engine Rustoleum Roadster (3%, 22 Votes)

I swear Saturday they were tied at 22 votes! That shitty wheeled thing was what got me to write a nom of my own, I was so relieved that the old RR had not lost to it :( Not won, but not lost. And in the end the crap thing got an extra vote! The POS with no evidence of ever moving even!

Okay that helped, I feel fine again. Seriously now, congrats Scott! It's a wonderful story, very touching, and great work.

Good deal, congratulations Scott. Great car. It was up against some stiff competition all worthy of their own Hoon of the year in their own right. It was tough to decide to decide this year.
