HCOTY 2012 Nominee: California Ford Falcon XB

I have come across a lot of cool cars this year. A lot. Obscure classics at the Anti-Football Run. The Citroens of Seconds Saturdays. The original Cars & Coffee. Lancias at Eddins Moto. And a whole bunch of fast cars. But what really did it for me is this, Brendan’s Ford Falcon XB.

Why?

  • It’s Australian, so it’s right-hand drive.
  • It’s got a honkin’ Ford V8.
  • It has Lucas electrics.
  • It’s a handful to drive.
  • It’s in California.
  • It smells of fuel, oil, and grease.

Here is the original post.

I absolutely love '70's Aussie iron, and this one ticks all the right boxes. "Sexy" seems like an understatement!

    351C and a Toploader4
    Delicious

    • TechEd says:

Technically, even though the engine is designated a Cleveland, it's a 351 M – as in Melbourne. Built as a Cleveland but with extra thick internal webbing. Stronger than a US made version.

It would be a shame to blow it up.

If I win some giant lottery, I will fly to 'Stralia and purchase at least one of these.

Plus 1 for Love the Beast. Eric Bana is one of us.

Thanks for nominating me Jim! It was my pleasure to show you the XB and take you for a drive.

Not too long after that drive, the steering rag joint failed. Luckily it was during a slow turn and I was able to stop quickly. I am still fixing the darn thing as the sterring shaft and steering box are both UNDER the brake booster. A lot of swearing and thrown wrenches.

At least I'll have the Monaro back on the road shortly. Another cruise in Aussie iron from the '70s.
