LAAS 2012: Any Gods reading this… Meet your new chariot.

Jeff Glucker November 29, 2012 Car Shows, LA Auto Show 31 Comments

Dear Santa,

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jeff Glucker, and I’m the Executive Editor and Co-Founder of Hooniverse.com. I’ve been a pretty good boy this year, despite what you may or may not have read on the Internet. I don’t want to take up too much of your time, but I’d like to ask you for one thing. It’s not a super car, it’s not an exotic car, and it’s not a luxury SUV. It’s the Morgan Three Wheeler, and I don’t just want it… I need it.

Or I’ll die.

It’s on you now Santa… do the right thing.

  • Santa: What Jeff said. Please. With a car seat.

    That's a sweet chariot…
    Does it…

    Swing low?

  • These are beautifully crafted machines, and I don't necessarily begrudge their crazy-high prices.

But I wonder…why can't someone make a cheap version of this? A top-end 700cc 4×4 side-by-side (arguably the closest thing to it on the market) is mid-teens, price-wise…so why not a sit-in street three wheeler?

The Pembleton is to this what the Locost Se7en is to a Caterham, except that in its case the Pembleton came first.

Or, for the same money as the Morgan, you could get the Seattle-based Liberty Motors Ace Cyclecar, which after all is where Morgan went to get their three wheeler, and which is why the older Ace now has to be "constructed under license of the Morgan 3-Wheeler", according to their website.

      • Xedicon

The Ace looks better to me, especially the interior! So glad you brought this up – not that I can buy one right at the moment though. 🙂

    • CherokeeOwner

I could see a Japanese motorcycle company making something like this. Something like a streamlined three-wheeler made by Suzuki powered by a Hayabusa engine.

  • Devin

This would be, uh, interesting to drive today, considering all I see when I look outside is that dastardly white stuff.

    I totally would.

    • Sixtyover

you only need to substitute snow mobile tracks for the 3rd wheel.

    • Dean Bigglesworth

Wouldn't stop me either.. I would try burning it all away with burning rubber and fire spitting exhausts. Just showeled todays snow* off my yard**.

      *about 30cm
**If you can call it a yard, about 4x3m.

Santa will want to know if you've been naughty or nice. Sometimes naughty is nice, but then sometimes nice is naughty.

    • POLAЯ

Life's more interesting on the naughty listings.

      • $kaycog

I don't want to take a chance, so I'm both naughty and nice.

    • Dean Bigglesworth

I'll be whatever Santa wants me to be if he brings me this this motor.. auto.. uh. automocycle.

      • $kaycog

        It's really, really awesome!

        • Dean Bigglesworth

I want to drive this thing with a tatty old leather helmet flapping in the wind and a soggy cigarette dangling from my lips, my driving goggles all fogged up because of the rain; terrorizing the neighbourhood with smoky burnouts and manic laughter.

          • POLAЯ

I'd gladly be the nut sitting next to you trying to light yer smoke!

            • Dean Bigglesworth

Keep still goddammit! I got this.
              <img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/74465213/tonyp-crop.jpg" img>

Sadly, the internet doesn't have any pictures of people trying to light cigarettes with a huge gas torch while driving a three-wheeler. So the above will have to do.

          • $kaycog

            Perfect description for that car.

            • Dean Bigglesworth

              The perfect Sunday drive..

    • Scandinavian Flick

      Hmmmm, kinky…

      • $kaycog

You would know about kinky. Shame!

  • Dean Bigglesworth

I shot a couple of really crappy pictures of its grandad in 2007.

    • the first photo reminds me of Johnny 5.

      • Dean Bigglesworth

Is there a worrying hole in my education if i had to look that up on altavista google?

        • Alcology

Only if you've also never seen Batteries not Included.

          • Dean Bigglesworth

No, but i did watch Orgazmo a few years ago.

So now i have two more movies on my "movies i probably should get around to watching already" list.

      • Xedicon

YEAH internets high five for the Johnny Five reference!

  • wisc47

Damn I should've asked for one of those for Christmas, with old timey driving goggles, gloves, and scarf as stocking stuffers.

  • My fellow Hoons should have taken a stroll down Park Avenue with this olelongrooffan a couple weekends ago.

A friend of mine wanted to drive a Se7en every day for a year, and then write a book about his experiences. I feel like I should start approaching publishers and steal his idea (and then use the advance to pay for one of these, so I can write about driving one for a year).
