1978 AMC Pacer X with a blown 360 V8

Kamil Kaluski November 28, 2012 For Sale

This may very well be a last minute contender for HCOY2012. This is seemingly high quality built-up of a Pacer turned street-legal-ish dragster. The seller adds details below, along with the how the car will make the center of attention, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Not digging the grille or tail lights, but it does look to be well done.

  2. B72 says:

IS THE AD WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE HE HAS HEARING DAMAGE DUE TO LOUD EXHAUST?

  3. gearz1 says:

That has to be hairy when you put your foot in it.

  4. buzzboy7 says:

I'm not big on slushy drag cars, but I like the sidedraught mikunis. That's a classy touch.

  5. fodder650 says:

Bonus points for leaving the engine up front. A lot of these conversions, or the Gremlin ones, put the engine behind the driver.

  6. acarr260 says:

It's obviously too awesome to put a price on!
Seriously… how much do you think he wants for this thing? He doesn't bother to list a price that I can find.

Other than a few rather tacky decisions like the upholstery color and the tail lights, it looks like a well-done build and I'm sure it would be a ton of fun at car shows and cruises.

    Oh man dem wheels!
Love the color works so well with the black. If the front was more stock looking I'd say hcoty for sure. I hate the hood. Stop cover that shit up! Having a hood with the motor sticking through it is awesome don't cover it up!

  8. racer139 says:

I love the side draughts , but I hate the hood so If I where to buy it I would convert the thing to e.f.i, one with the lowest profile. Then I would put a normal hood back on maybe with a two inch cowl. Id also change the grill and those chrome venty thingys in the back(maybe just paint the to match the car). love it and should be a hcoty nominee.

  9. bravenrace says:

HCOTY? Seriously? That car could have been great, but it's not. Ugly front end, ugly back end, ugly color combination, ….

  10. muthalovin says:

I have no problems with this Pacer. It is awesome.

    "CUSTOM CARPET"

  12. B72 says:

A buddy had a pacer with a stock 6 cylinder. He hooned it. He said that it was so short and so wide that it was hard to keep the thing pointed where he wanted to go.

This one must be even worse. I like it.

  13. topdeadcentre says:

    1) The hood has got to go — to be set in the garage in case of rain. Crazy engine needs to poke up through a big hole.

    2) Goofy grille has got to get un-goofy. Shiny thin-horizontal billet, or chrome "OM NOM NOM" shark teeth instead of upper and lower grille are called for.

    3) I'm not crazy about the rim color. I think I'd go for chrome instead.

    4) I'd "unpimp" the back-end treatment a bit. Same with the front-end pimpy shiny things.

    5) Stomp on the go pedal until the smoking remains of my license are dropped at my feet by the state cops.

    • Vairship says:

Regarding #1: I'd put the stock hood back on, with a big plexiglass or Lexan dome on it for the engine bits that don't fit under the regular hood.

  14. danleym says:

Anyone else notice that it's a Mopar 360, not an AMC 360? Kinda takes away the appeal for me. I'm sure it would still be a blast to drive, but I'd rather it was an AMC 360.
