A hoon’s view of Pikes Peak

Longtime friend of Hooniverse Phillip Thomas is currently in Colorado, and he’s sitting some 14,000-feet above sea level. Why is he that high in the air? Well, he’s not in the air, he’s on the ground at the 2012 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Thomas is there to work with the team behind Brianne Corn Racing, which means he and his crew have a great shot at a fast time.

Last year, Corn powered her Subaru WRX to victory in the 4WD Time Attack Division. A few folks crashed out during the 2011 race, which helped Corn along, but she’s back in 2012 to prove that those accidents had nothing to do with her fast run up the hill. Thomas is there to help Corn and her team, and he will be providing us with more insight into the event in a few days.

For now, he’s taking in the scenery and making sure Brianne lays down great qualifying times. Click past the break for two more shots from the mountain.

  • One of my best friends, Bill Wilson of Wilson Performance, built the motor for last year's 2nd place finisher in the ATV class…and they're back at it again. Here's Mike Ell's radical "kneeler" quad going through tech earlier this week.

Black thing is Ford RS200? They use these at Pikes Peak still? Anything else from Group B times or earlier? We need more photos.

  • Go Mr.TexanIdiot, shoot some more action stuff for us. Good luck with your team.

That's what going through "tech" looks like? What is he testing, the mandatory Garrote?
