Last Call- The Junkyard Primeval Edition

Robert Emslie February 24, 2012 Last Call

When Little Red Riding Hood was making here way to Grandma’s house, she came across the sly Wolf, who was sitting despondently among his collection of wrecked and discarded cars along the path. What big Isettas you have, exclaimed Red Riding Hood. The better to seat you with, replied the wolf. And what big Peerless’ you have, said Red. Replied the wolf, the better to endear you, my dear. Finally, Red Riding Hood stopped in front of a pile of Saabs, and after a moment of reflection turned to the wolf, what big. . . she began, and the wolf, awaiting his cue raise a single brow and twitched his tail almost imperceptibly. But Little Red Riding Hood could find nothing to comment about with the Saabs, and as bound by the strictures of the fairy tail in which they live, she continued on, leaving the wolf once again alone but for how moss-covered charges. I knew I should never have bought a Saab, said the wolf to himself, thus joining every other Saab owner on the planet and not living very happily after all.

Y'all are probably over on the forums, but I have no time to sign up right now…

I need a nice resort located somewhere remote-ish, that is a 6-10 hour drive from Buffalo. Adirondacks, West Virginia, most of New England, and Quebec are all options.

I'd like to have the opportunity to hike/mountain bike, maybe take the Delica offroading, or see a race, or something cool and car related. Mrs. Feds wants to put here feet up and be pampered.

    Hive mind: attack!

There's always Lime Rock in northwestern CT. Beautiful countryside, great driving roads to get there, and it's a great track with actual curves both left AND right. Can't speak to pampering opportunities though. Website is http://www.limerock.com/

On a non-automotive but still mechanical and cool note, there's Rhinebeck Aerodrome not too far away in Red Hook NY. They actually fly pre-WWII airplanes for your viewing pleasure. You can also get a ride if your pockets are deep enough. The flight demonstration is wrapped in a cheesy keystone cops routine in case you have kids. They have a WW1 tank too. There's nothing quite like the sight and sound sound of a make-or-break radial biplane crabbing in for a landing. The taildraggers come in cockeyed so that the pilot can actually see the hilly grass airstrip, then straighten out at the last minute. Website is http://www.oldrhinebeck.org/

Hope you find something to your liking!

The ancient warriors now slumber in Valhalla, their battles over, waiting for the day when Erik will summon them once again with but a flick.

Seriously?!? I thought this was Hooniverse, not TTAC.

(I had to wait until the next day after reading this to come up with a comment this polite.)

"Red Riding Hood stopped in front of a pile of Saabs…."

I can sympathize with his plight, but as I see only one SAAB in the photo, that wolf is strictly bush league.

  6. Anyone else wish HDR photography would go away?

(Sour grapes 'cos I'm no good at it).
